Inspector Falke - Happy Easter, Falke
This episode sees Falke's partner, Katharina Lorenz, attending a charity event in Hamburg. It turns out the event has been targeted by a radical group known as the 'Bad Easter Bunnies'. Until now their protests have been relatively tame but their new leader wants them to step up and threaten people with real weapons. They quickly take control of the building but Katharina manages to contact Falke, just as a hostage is murdered. He then has to discover exactly where the event is taking place then the specialist unit can prepare to storm the building. Inside Katharina tries to befriend one of the hostage takers.
This gripping episode wasted little time introducing the criminals; just enough to make it clear that it is one of them that is urging the others to take more aggressive action. Their bunny costumes are nicely creepy; very similar to Frank in the film 'Donnie Darko'. Once they seize the building tensions quickly rise when one business man is killed. We then get the briefest of comedy moments before it is turned into tragedy. The tension stays high right to the end and is raised at times as we learn more about the group's leader's real motives. There are a few twists along the way, although they aren't too surprising... anybody who has seen 'Die Hard' will know the obvious motive for taking a building full of people won't be the real motive! The cast does a solid job; Petra Schmidt-Schaller has a notably larger role than usual as Katharina takes centre stage. Overall a good tense episode.
