Café Society (2016)

Goofs

Café Society

Edit

Factual errors

Twice, one of the characters states that Judaism does not believe in an afterlife. This is untrue. Judaism does indeed recognize an afterlife. Many books have been written on the subject including "Does the Soul Survive? A Jewish Journey to Belief in Afterlife, Past Lives & Living with Purpose" by Rabbi Elie Kaplan Spitz (2015),

Miscellaneous

When Ben decides to become a Christian, he says it's because of a passage in the Book of Psalms, which is found in the Old Testament, the Jewish part of the Bible.

Anachronisms

When Bobby comes to Phil's house and Phil tells him he is getting a divorce, there is a brief glimpse of the modern-day LA skyline in the upper right hand corner of the screen behind Phil.
When Vonnie leaves the Castle Green apartment building, a National Register of Historic Places plaque is visible behind the door. The building was added to the NRHP in 1982.
The grand piano in the first club scene was a Sojin, a Korean brand. Sojin pianos were not imported to the US until 1981.
When Vonnie and Bobby are kissing overlooking the sea, there's a couple walking on the beach at the right side of the screen: he's is wearing electric blue shorts.
In the opening scene at a swimming pool, the narrator's voice (Woody Allen's) says that it took place 'in the late thirties'. Yet, towards the beginning of the movie, soon after arriving in Hollywood, Bobby comes out of a movie theater advertising on billboards and posters a Barbara Stanwyck film "The Woman in Red" _ which was released in 1935.

Audio/visual unsynchronised

During the nightclub sequences, apart from the New Years Eve scene when they play "Auld Lang Syne", the band musicians are obviously miming or not playing their instruments, although we hear them play various jazz tunes.

Crew or equipment visible

When Leonard asks Evelyn "What are you keeping from me?" and walks towards her, a reflection of the camera is visible in a picture frame on the wall.
