Another fantastic and insane episode, this episode shows you some back story about the hotel and its serial killer owner, it was great with the flashbacks in a black and white form gave a kinda grindhouse look, wes Bentley was really great in the season which I don't get the hate people have for him, overall the episode was crazy packed with murder sex and gore and enjoyed the hell out if it

S5.E2 - Vampires [8.5/10]

Warning: Spoilers
(S5. E2) My Live Reaction / Review for American Horror Story Season 5 Episode 2 ''Chutes and Ladders''. The previous episode was good and I gave it a rating of 10/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. Why do these ghost kids drink blood? A basement full of corpses? This is interesting. They have children in coffins? What the hell? We have the introduction of a new character called Tristan, he seems interesting. Evan Peter's character is a total psycho. Wait, so the Countess and and her boyfriend are vampires? I like the Countess more and more, she has that vibe about her. Nice to see the building's history. Overall this episode was good, my rating is 8.5/10.

I'm Gaga over this season!
mizmimi-130 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This season keeps increasing the creep factor! I am thrilled to see so many of the previous A.H.S. actors back. Also the introduction of Lady Gaga was a stroke of genius. Her performances are regal, aloof, and sensual. She is a wonderful combination of Gloria Swanson in Sunset Boulevard, Catherine Deneuve in The Hunger, and Gloria Holden in Dracula's Daughter. Her fabulous outfits are like the classic styles of the women of the 30's & 40's like Fay Wray in King Kong. As a doctor I love, said.. That beautiful satin-draped frame. I love her in this part and in this season. I love this season's story line. This hotel beats the blood out of the Bates Motel any day.

I've been eager for the second episode, how would it be? I'll tell you.. Insane!
jnasmark15 October 2015
After watching the first episode of season five my expectations went to the sky. The feeling, the acting, the characters and the story slowly developing out into something that in first seems like a "cop vs killer" had a drastic turn.

I'll keep it short, the first episode really blew my mind away. Lady Gaga had perhaps the majority of that to take credit for. Her introduction scene.. no words can describe it. But after the first episode it left me with one worry. How will the next one be?

Well, sit back and relax.

AHS just keeps throwing coal into the fire on this train. It just won't stop. This one hour episode had me from the first seconds to the end credits. And, it left me with a hunger as well. I also want more..

Straight 10/10!

Loved the black and white scene
nikitacpv25 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The reason for this whopping 10-star rating is simply because even though the first episode started of strong but the amount of weird and obscure scenes made me love it less, this episode was just fantastic as they finally revealed some key information.

We learn more about the history of the hotel, and who and what Gaga's character is.

The way the scenes with Evan Peters were filmed in black and white during the building of the hotel were fantastic. Evan Peters had never been my favorite character in the AHS series, even though he might be as unfortunately Jessica Lange isn't in it anymore.

Great episode and hope the rest of the episodes are as strong!

More of the hotel's back story is revealed after a new owner brings fashion to the hotel.
pal050520031 November 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This is slightly better than the pilot as most of the story had been introduced. However, I still find the camera-work distracting. It seems the producers want to make AHS Hotel look like Spartacus in a modern day setting. But unlike Spartacus, the sex and gore does not add anything to the story. The take on vampire is not original or interesting either. It is similar to the vampires in Blade, much less interesting and menacing. The best part was Finn Witrock as the model who learns some of the hotel's secrets, and the introduction of Evan Peters' character. Peters' is entertaining as usual, and he expands his range playing the ghost of the hotel owner. His performance alone lifts the story. Peters' strange accent makes him a cross between Bane and Heath Ledger's Joker, yet he maintains the air of an aristocrat. Wes Bentley's inexpressive face is a distraction, but considering him as a homicide investigator going through many troubles, you would expect him to wear that expression. However, Bentley is a capable actor and can convey great emotion without showing it on his face. But it cannot be compared to his performance as Edward Mordrake in AHS Freakshow. I guess he set the bar too high for himself. P.s. I forgot to mention Denis O'Hare's performance. O'Hare is given such a small role but he chews the scene every time he appears. I hope his character plays a bigger role in later episodes.

Episode 2 Truthfully? It was embarrassing to watch Gaga's performance
curiouscarnivore16 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I made an honest effort to give this episode my time and full attention So that my viewing and my attempts to engross myself to watch Lady Gaga's début appearance in acting, playing the part of what i assume should have come across to all viewers and fans of this Series, a character which would create and succeed in authenticity watch should have been a powerful female vampire, ancient and with a sense almost regal status and the secret hidden as she was rich and in high circles.. (my critical review maybe so harsh, due to my being such a huge fan of the famously directed movie called and portrayed beautifully and with no flaw..The Queen of the Damned, nothing will ever come close to such a powerful performance and ability to pull off what no movie had ever entertained the notion of a woman being all powerful and seen as Ultimate Hierarchy reigning over all other vampires in the worldly realms they dwelt within.. )

To honestly try ever so hard to give a little allowance for this woman who in reality is for some reason obsessed and feels entitled as some ultimate title of fame.. play such a difficult role as a female all powerful vampire. which in film industry is rarely entertained To give open opinion or credit for gaga's chance to prove a possible talent as an actress in delivering and providing fans a convincing role with her spoken lines of the script.. Unfortunately failed miserably, her voice held no depth nor sense of character to portray a woman of historic live span with eternal life felt empty, if such a character were true to life they surely would hold quite an worldy foreign in nature vocal sound, but she spoken the lines without emotional input , maybe incapable of providing such a necessary, and vital pert of any actress to be seen and respected as talented.. it was filled with her conversations in scenes flat cold held no form in character, and embarrassing to witness such an inability to qualify as an actress of high regard..

What she did pull off without a problem or lack of promise was her physical demur and poise in how she pull off the physical belief that this female character held a sense of elite belief and walked amongst the crowds to watch fashion show held in the Hotel.. she passed with flying colours But when truth of her ability in reality is fueled by her constant sense of being someone of high regard, lady gaga yes is celebrity status but for what exactly i don't know, so when looking at the facts that for the first time gaga was wearing designed clothes of lavish high quality creations, and authentic for her only, must have inflated her ego eccentric delusions and no one could accuse her of her unacceptable habit of being forever exposed or be in debate of stealing designs created for iconic celebrities, and copy- catastrophically creating a distasteful insult of her own sense of style..which is 99% a creation of some insane and shocking car crash copy to only causes insult and injury to the origins of its idea or concept... so gaga was given fuel for her forever needful alter-ego and walked like she was some royal being whom everyone should almost feel obliged in bowing to her.. As for the rest of her physical presence.. it was like watching some sleazy directors attempt to create some soft porno movie with hope of tasteful input..gaga destroyed the scenes and presented us with acting very easily and second nature to turning the character into a blood sucking whore , and she had no worries or shy nature and as we all know lately music videos gaga style ...once quite interesting and even to giving us a short story in with each song... has now become her obsession of wearing less and less to naked scenes rolling around the floor on piles of newspaper.. Gaga destroyed the hope of any chance of performing and giving a talented belief of what the character which see played was created entirely for American Horror Story.. She came across with clear lack of talent in conversational scenes in the episode failing to convince anyone her being an all powerful ancient vampire high in status and controlling those around her.. and her physical presence only could be called just above par.. were the scenes where she wore designed lavish dresses, which we know was only the real gaga actually wearing authentic designs made for just HER.. so her ego pull off the physical presence of what gaga is like in reality the rest of her physical appearance can only compare to a sleazy soft porn movie and we were given a display of not quite characterrole but more gaga.. as some whore with a addiction and need for blood..
