Great Modern Episode
laffla10 October 2022
This was a nice episode of modern Simpsons, I'm kind of surprised it took this long for them to have a regular episode of halloween but hey, it's excellent! It's nice to see Lisa act like an actual kid, and the dynamic between her and Homer felt like that of a classic episode! And the ending is very heartwarming and funny how Lenny impersonated Khang, and the twilight zone parody with Maggie!

One thing I didn't care for though, was the NC-17 Halloween song but that's just me, and this maybe a controversial opinion, but I prefer this episode vastly over Barthood (not that I didn't like it), but I just prefer this episode.

Prequel to Treehouse of Horror
safenoe12 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I haven't seen Treehouse of Horror XXVI but this episode, Halloween of Horror screened the week before, so it's kind of a prequel I guess. There are no traditional trio of segments to this. Many imdb user reviewers have described this as a grown-up version of Treehouse of Horror and in some ways it is.

It deals with Lisa being scared and being emotional (without a crutch as Marge describes it) in the backdrop of Halloween.

This episode, Halloween of Horror, ain't for anyone init, but still it's one for the ages and is thoughtful, humane and grown-up.

I envy the reviews posted before the minimum word limit.

Nice spin on the usual

Isn't funny at all but, it's nice watching Lisa overcome her fear of Halloween.

Sad that those employees from Apu's store held such a grudge against Homer.

But that helped Lisa overcome her fears which is good.

Best Episode in Recent Years
sivadparks-8978624 October 2017
I love this episode. It gives me faith that they can still make good Simpsons episodes. What the post season 12 episodes lost was the small, relatable nature of the show and they got too ludicrous. Halloween of Horror dials it down to the classic days and focuses on Lisa overcoming fear. Right out the gate, this is a focused episode. You don't have 15 minutes of loosely related gags before getting into the plot. We see Lisa go to a Krusty haunted walk and get scared in a hilarious but sad season. This leads to Homer having to stay home with her for Halloween inside. But when some people take revenge on Homer, Lisa has to overcome her fears and let go. Their relationship is perfectly captured and capped with a needed and well deserved emotional climax. I can't explain how happy I was to watch a great post season 12 episode.

It's time for grown-up Halloween!

I agree with everyone who found this episode to be as great as most of the earlier season episodes from Seasons 1 through 11. Homer and Lisa's A-plot was full of emotion, and Marge and Bart's B-plot was also spectacular. Both plots meshed very well together at the end. This episode is even better than Barthood! The B-plot was boring at first, but the Grown-Up Halloween musical number made it much better. This episode needs to be rated at least 8 or higher. It's the only modern episode that I found better than Dark Knight Court and Springfield Splendor. I didn't like to review Simpsorama because I don't want to add to the impression I got that crossover episodes are the only good things The Simpsons can have anymore, especially when Family Guy and Futurama should already be in a different universe where they do not have yellow skin. The only thing that could possibly ruin this episode for me would be if I heard that it was originally written 1 or 2 decades earlier, but I doubt it was.

As Burns would say... Excellent

Unlike the previous review posted on here, I personally thing this was the must down to Earth Simpsons episode in recent years. Despite the very upsetting season premier, Halloween of Horror and Cue Detectives have had some of the most consistently funny and heartwarming moments, and therefore are 2 of the best episodes of the season so far (and best episodes in a LONG time.)

Halloween of Horror revolves around Lisa's newfound fear of Halloween, and Homer's desire to decorate the house but also protect Lisa for the night, after angering a group of pop-up Halloween employees. Various elements in the episode gave this a ''season 2'' type feeling to it, in the sense that it was consistently heartwarming, hilarious, the scoring was amazing, the animation and subtle sight gags were great, and the overall dialogue was very very strong. OH and this was the first time in a LONG LONG time that we've gotten a good town song.

Halloween of Horror was written by Carolyn Omine and directed by Mike Anderson. I hope to see more episodes by these two, and I would not be surprised if this was the episode that scored The Simpsons another Emmy this year. Well done.

One of the Most Relatable, Human Simpsons there's Ever Been,
lesleyharris3027 December 2015
Halloween of Horror is a fantastic Simpsons episode with a very well written storyline and loads of very funny scenes. It's surprising just how good this episode really was, I thought it was only being made so they could say they've done a canon Halloween episode, but they genuinely only used the occasion in order to set up the plot, which is beautiful, it's very simple but it never manages to become boring, it's thrilling, emotional and it has a great message conveyed, that we're never too old to be scared and that it's perfectly normal. The only thing I felt was missing from the plot was more interactions from secondary characters, sure they speak with Apu and Ned Flanders, there's also a great musical number, but other than that the Simpsons mostly only talk with the other Simpsons, it would have added to the humour to have a bit more from the likes of Moe or Krusty. Despite being both sweet and thrilling, the episode never loses its humour, it remains consistently funny throughout, many scenes had me in stitches, and I think those are the best episodes of any comedy series, the ones that manage to convey a message or have a lot of heart while still being hilarious, and the Simpsons have succeeded at this on many occasions. Sweet, funny and even heart stomping at times, Halloween of Horror is the Simpsons at their very finest.

Lisa feels she can no long handle Halloween, while Homer tries to avoid three men he accidentally got fired from the Kwik-E-Mart and Marge takes Bart trick or treating.

It was so awesome
arielsiere28 August 2022
It also was a halloween special along with Treehouse Of Horror Xxvi and the adults of Springfield sang a song called Nc-17 halloween which means that all children are sleeping and all the adults go out to party in the streets, Lisa had a trauma because of her fear so she uses a raccoon tail to cheer her up and some thieves enter inside his house and everything in the end goes all right despite thanksgiving of horror which means a spin-off to Treehouse Of Horror, it was a great thing to do that because of the song, and that is it even though i feel bad for Lisa because of her fear and i don't want to write more things the end.

After 25 Episodes
rjmk-1295818 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I thought this was the annual Treehouse of Horror episode. It is not, therefore, I reserve my opinion.

However, as a "Halloween themed" episode was a very sober one. This entry was basically mapped out when Ned Flanders asks Homer what he has in store for this Halloween. I probably should have switched the channel right there.

However, I kept waiting for the "bit" to be over and for the humour to begin. The episode is very serious and almost devoid of humour.

The only high point was the musical number which was a la The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Even the third act pay off of Lisa overcoming her phobia of "all things" Halloween just was not there.

As a loyal fan, I was truly disappointed.

worst halloween ever
Anikan31 October 2015
what were they thinking, the first story was the only good one, they just when bad to worst, what has happen to the tree house of horror, this was just plain garbage, this show the simpsons needs to end, they have no fresh ideas any more, they seem to copy old ep, sorry this worst then the lady gagga ep, the simpson isn't what it use to be, look at the tree house of horror in the early 90's, they where written well and were 100 % better then this crap, this is just a poor ep, poorly written and directored, come on bring back how the simpsons use to be, this is just plain crap, compare to the original tree house horror this is just plain lazy, the last story seems not finished, it started 5 min later is just turn to nothing, again worst tree house of horror ever 2/10 which is below E so a -F, it i cant see how a rating could go any lower, i only giving it 2/10 for the first story.
