Officer Justin Rapp would go on to shoot and kill Andrew Finch, an unarmed man, on his own front porch having admittedly seen no weapon, in Wichita, Kansas on Dec. 28, 2017 and is as of early 2022 appealing a decision denying him qualified immunity and allowing a civil trial to proceed against him. The shooting gained infamy due to it arising from a "swatting" hoax spurred on by a $1.50 Call of Duty bet and the target of the hoax providing an address at which he no longer lived. The Wichita gamer, Shane Gaskill, and Finch did not know each other nor was Finch a gamer.
