Initially planned as a stand-alone short film. Denise (Tifani Ahren Davis) was supposed to die at the end, but after developing the character through rehearsals and shooting half of the initial short, director Joe Zappa decided that it would be wasteful to simply kill off such an interesting character. Producer-star Kip Bennett suggested how she would survive and Zappa decided to continue the story as a series.
After expanding the initial pilot script into a multi-episode continued storyline, Joe Zappa and Kip Bennett used months of research on serial killers, serial killing couples in particular, as inspiration, drawing from the exploits and relationships between Suzan and James Carson, Judith and Alvin Neelley, Fred and Rosemary West, David and Catherine Birnie, and Charlene and Gerald Gallego. However, Zappa and Bennett were careful never to draw directly from these sources for characterization or modus operandi.
Myra Zimmerman Grubbs originally approached Kip Bennett about playing a small role. Throughout shooting, she grew to become a full-on producer alongside Bennett. They now produce as a team, mounting several features, short films and commercials together.
Jason Ervin plays Officer Newberry and also does all the make-up design and effects for the show.
Gregory Patrick Angew's sole scene in Season One was shot a month after the show had initially wrapped.
