The original concept for this video was supplied by Freddie Wong, the popular YouTube producer and director of video game-themed comedy shorts.
This short parodies the 2013 first-person shooter video game known as 'BioShock Infinite,' in which a former Pinkerton agent named Booker travels to the floating air city of Columbia to rescue the imprisoned Elizabeth. Despite its selling more than 3.7 million retail copies in its first two months after release, some gamers found the element of being able to loot whole pineapples and hot dogs from defeated foes a bit silly, and this video capitalized on that aspect.
Though technically Hapstance's most complex shoot up to that time, the creators also managed to complete the whole project in record time: just two weeks. Every shot was done against green screen in a garage, and most of the actors were filmed individually and their scenes stitched together in post. Animator Austin Hillebrecht created a fully 3D warehouse location with Adobe After Effects, another unconventional choice.
