Synopsis

  • A war between the Kauravas and the Pandavas looks inevitable but Krishna makes a last attempt for peace. Draupadi doesn't want Krishna to go to Hastinapur. Krishna explains to Draupadi that sacrificing millions of lives for her personal gain (She wants Dushasan's chest blood for her unkempt hair and that would not be possible without war) is not a justification for war. Krishna promises not to stake the self respect of the Pandavas. Draupadi tells Krishna not to forget that Dushasan touched her, Duryodhan stoked his thighs in front of her, and Karna called her a prostitute. She says that if Pandavas seek peace then she will ask her old father, her brother and her sons to seek her justice. Shikhandi also tells Krishna that he does not want peace. Krishna tells Shikhandi not to put his share on insults into Pandavas books and expect war on his account. He tells Shikhandi to either find his own battlefield or let the events play put naturally.

Vidur tells Bhishma that Krishna is coming as the ambassador of peace. Bhishma tells Vidur that Krishna is coming to take permission for war from the elders in the Hastinapur family, and he knows that Duryodhan will close all doors to peace even to Krishna. Bhishma's oath will force him to fight for Duryodhan and he knows that this goes against his own sense of what is righteous. Bhishma then asks Dhritarashtra to accept the proposal that Krishna brings. Bhishma assigns Vidur and Duryodhan to make arrangements to welcome Krishna. Dhritarashtra plans a volley of expensive gifts for Krishna, but Vidur says that Dhritarashtra should not attempt to bribe Krishna. No amount of bribe will ever separate Krishna from Arjun. Bhishma also warns that if Krishna is insulted in Dhritarashtra's court, then he would run out of tears to cry for Duryodhan.

Karna meets Bhishma and asks why he has always lost to Arjun so far, and Bhishma says that because Karna is siding with the unjust and hence will always lose. Karna says like Bhishma cannot leave Hastinapur, he cannot leave Duryodhan.

Krishna arrives in Hastinapur and is flooded with a lavish welcome as arranged by Dhritarashtra to impress Krishna. Dhritarashtra offers Krishna a humble cow as a gift. Krishna pays his respects to Dhritarashtra and says, "Maharaj, in return I can only offer peace!" "We will talk after you have rested," says Dhritarashtra.

He tells Dushasan to take Krishna to his guestrooms, but Krishna refuses the offer and tells Dhritarashtra that he will be staying with Vidur. Krishna says that one can accept hospitality either from a host or from a friend, and Duryodhan is neither. Duryodhan is annoyed with Krishna for refusing their hospitality. Krishna further needles Duryodhan by saying that today he is standing on the side of the unjust, and Krishna will thus never support him. Krishna says he is friends with the Pandavas as they are righteous. He will support the righteous. Duryodhan again offers food to Krishna, and Krishna again says that if Duryodhan really wanted to feed Krishna, he would have accepted Krishna's peace proposal. Krishna leaves to have food with Vidur.

Krishna meets Kunti and tells her that her 5 kids will always be protected. He indicates that he knows Karna is her 6th son, and is unlikely to survive the war. Kunti refuses to leave Hastinapur during the war.
