- Surya meets Karna and warns him about Indra's deceit. Karna gives away his armour and earrings.
- Krishna has humble spinach and wheat bread with Vidur and his wife. Vidur says that Krishna should not have stayed at his place as Duryodhan is likely to misinterpret this in every way possible. Vidur says Duryodhan is confident that Pandavas will not face the Kauravas army in war as that army would consist of Bhishma, Drona and Kripa. Virat war was a different matter since there Arjun was representing the Matsya kingdom who had given them shelter. It wasn't his personal war.
Krishna goes to the court of Hastinapur and says, "Peace is a necessity. In war, people from both sides die, though only one side wins.". Krishna tells Dhritrashtra that history will hold him accountable for the war and for all the injustice done to Pandavas. He asks the old king to get the family together as he would not have anything left if the brothers go to war. Peace is never impossible. Krishna suggests that Indraprastha be given back to the Pandavas, but Duryodhan insists that the Pandavas must return to the forest exile for 12 years. Drona, Bhishma ask Duryodhan to think carefully before refusing the proposal from Krishna. Duryodhan says he will consider another proposal, but wont consider giving away Indraprastha which is half the Kingdom. Krishna then suggests that five villages be given to the five Pandava brothers. The 5 are Avisthal, Varkasthal, Makandi, Varnavat and one more village.
Duryodhan finds the suggestion unacceptable and says that he will not part with land the size of a pin head. Even Shakuni is aghast at this refusal from Duryodhan. Duryodhan threatens to seize Krishna. Krishna asks Duryodhan to try and remind him that he is an ambassador who was welcomed by Drona, Kripa and Bhishma themselves. Krishna discloses his divinity and leaves the court. Only Bhishma, Vidur and Drona are able to see Krishna in his divine form..
Indra is worried for Arjun. He knows that Karna and Arjun will fight from opposing sides in the upcoming war. He says that there are many offensive weapons in the world, but this is only set of defensive kavach and kundals. Thus even all the divine weapons are ineffective in front of this set of kavach and kundals. Till Karna has the kavach and kundals, he cannot be defeated.
Sun God warns Karna that Indra is going to approach him and not to give away his Kavach and Kundals, which can change the arrows of fate. But Karna says that if someone asks for something after he completes his worship of the Sun God, then he is duty bound to fulfill that wish. Sun God tells Karna to ask for Indra's Shakti weapon
Indra goes to Karna disguised as a Brahmin, and asks for his kavach and kundals. Karna gives away his kavach and kundals without any hesitation. His Kavach and kundals are part of his body, and Karna gets all bloodied removing them from his body and offers it respectfully to Indra. Indra is obliged (since Indra knew that Sun God had warned Karna already about this event and still Karna didn't try to escape it) and tells Karna to ask for a boon. Karna asks for Indra's Shakti. Indra obliges Karna, but says he can use the Shakti only once.
