- After hearing about the Pandav's exile, Krishna goes to visit them. Krishna consoles Arjun that Draupadi's insult is an insult of the past, the present and the future. Arjun cannot take responsibility of everything. Krishna is also clear that Yudhishthir should do penance for his actions. As an elder bother he had no right to stake his brothers and his wife in gambling. Indraprastha belonged to all the 5 brothers and not Yudhishthir alone. When Yudhishthir was crossing the limits of decency, it was the duty of all brothers to oppose him, but only Draupadi protested.
Krishna advises the Pandavas to prepare for war (he wants Kaurav sons to start the talk of war and doesn't want Pandavas to be the aggressors) and tells Arjun to do penance to obtain divine weapons, which are with Lord Indra. He asks Arjun to impress Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva has the Pashupatastra, which will give Arjun entry into Indralok. He tells Draupadi that everyone who insulted her, would be killed in battle and their wives would mourn their dead bodies. He is happy that she sent her sons away to Kampilya and says that he will take Subhadra to Dwarka, so that her son Abhimanyu can be prepared for the upcoming war. The war will take place when all doors to a peaceful settlement are exhausted. But the war will happen as Draupadi unbraided hair demand it, Duryodhan's jealousy will ensure it. Dhritarashtra's ambition is fueling it. The war will be tough as Pandavas will face Bhishma, Drona, Kripa, Duryodhan, Jayadrath, Rukmi and many such warriors. While 2 are Arjun's teachers, Bhishma even at his age is a formidable warrior and as yet undefeated.
Duryodhan also starts prepping for war, by getting a roll call of his allies. Shakuni is confident to identify the Pandavas during the incognito year, but Duryodhan doesn't want to take chances. Arjun prays to Lord Indra who tells Arjun that for divine weapons, Arjun will have to impress Lord Shiva for the Pashupatastra. This weapon will open the gates of heaven. For obtaining the divine weapons, Arjun will have to tour the heavenly abodes.
Duryodhan send a rakshas in the form of a boar to attack and kill Arjun during his penance. Arjun attacks the boar, but his arrow has been cut in half by an ordinary hunter. When Arjun challenges the hunter, he shoots 4 arrows before Arjun can even touch his arrows. Arjun realizes that this is no ordinary hunter, but Lord Shiva himself. Only 4 people could have defeated him: Indra, Shiva, Bhishma and Drona. The hunter is not Bhishma and Drona, so has to be Shiva, since he was praying to Lord Shiva. Arjun pleases Lord Shiva. Shiva says that a friend of Krishna is his friend also. Lord Shiva bestows him with the divine Pashupatastra weapon and advises him to obtain other weapons in Indralok.
Subhadra is with Abhimanyu in Dwarka. Karna returns from his victory tour to Hastinapur. He brings a clutch of crowns and untold riches back with him. Dhritarashtra praises Karna and says that Duryodhan is indeed safe under Karna's friendship. Bhishma still insists that it is better to make allies with the Pandavas. Karna is not even 1/4th of Arjun
Rishi Duruvasa visits Hastinapur. In an attempt to humiliate the Pandavas, Duryodhan requests that the sage visit the Pandavas as well. Rishi Duruvasa promises to do so.
In the forest, Draupadi serves a lunch to the 5 brothers. Draupadi is angry that Yudhishthir is not even planning for war.
