The Crime

This Polish murder mystery series, set on the scenic Hel Peninsula, is made up of two three-part seasons; each covers a separate case. In the first a woman, Agnieszka, discovers a body while swimming. It turns out the detective leading the investigation went to school with her. Soon there is a second murder and later skeletal remains are found. In the second case a man is fatally shot moments after winning a charity horse race along the beach, the runner-up was Agnieszka's husband and once again the same police officers are involved in the investigation. In both cases there are plenty of suspects, with varied motives.

Having never seen the Swedish series on which this is based I can't say how they compare; however I can say I enjoyed this; both for the interesting mysteries and setting. The various suspects kept me guessing till the final episode in each case. There are a few good moments of tension but this isn't an action series so don't expect shoot-outs or long chases. The cast does a solid job bringing the characters to life. Overall I'd certainly recommend this to fans of murder mysteries looking for a new setting.

A better version

This series is the Polish version of the Sandhamm Murders. But, it's much better in every way. In my opinion. The Sandhamm murdered, which I saw on MHZChoice, is good. Don't get me wrong. But, when compared to this it has a slower pace. This series, seems to be more dynamic, it has more movement. In every sense.

All in all it's too bad it only had two series.

Unfortunate Relationship Garbage

The show is decent. Has great twist and turns but the show is ruined by the relationship between the detective and the wife of another character. The detective acts like a schoolboy that's never had a girlfriend before. The wife only encourages the pathetic detective. The widowed detective loses respect from audience for actively pursuing the married. What is even worse, the only just met and are now deeply in love. Totally unnecessary to the main purpose of the series. The intrigue of the investigating of murders makes it worth watching if you look past the ill conceived relationship.

Is this a spin off of "The Sandham Murders"?

Unusual foreign detective series

Do cell phones not get locked in Polish detective thrillers? Had it not been for both Cezary and Krystyna leaving their phones, unlocked, while they stepped away, in two separate unrelated instances, for their spouses to find, the entire story (that being the detective story and the entire love angle) would have been hugely curtailed. Agnieszka might have never filed for divorce; and Krystyna might have been much delayed discovering that her husband's affair was with Poplawski.

Wonderful backdrop. Average storytelling.

I thought of dropping a few lines after watching the first season. I hooked on this series within first few minutes mainly due to the beauty of the scenery and breathtaking photography that captured it. It managed to make me intrigued initially but it looked like the focus on the main storyline was distracted by the subplot of romance between the detective and the lady who found the body. This relationship appeared a bit forced and there were too many coincidences that connected this lady to main storyline. This looked somewhat out of ordinary. Overall, it was a good watch but script could have been better.

Good enough

With a simple script and some add ons to keep the viewer entertained the Polish producers had made intriguing stories cast in a background turistic setting of Poland, the seaside villas in the North, close to the port of Gdynia.

Identical Twins?

Those who have referenced the Swedish series "The Sandhamn Murders" are correct in that its similarity with the Polish series "Zbrodnia" is remarkable. The first episode of the Swedish series was released in Sweden in December, 2010, and now has 26 subsequent episodes; it does not appear that it was released in Poland. The first episode of the Polish series was released in Poland in October, 2014, and now has only 5 subsequent episodes; it does not appear that it was released in Sweden.

I viewed the first 3 episodes of each series and was surprised how closely the Polish version followed the script. Even the head resting on her partner's shoulder while waiting for Ewa to show up was the same! Other than the names of the places and characters, biggest difference between the 2 versions was that the son of the poacher in the Polish version fled the police by motorcycle instead of on a boat as shown in the Swedish version.

The credits don't show a connection between the 2 versions, except they are derived from the book. Was there a tacit understanding or permission? Were rights obtained? My question is whether the relationship between the 2 countries and their artistic communities is one of symbiosis or hostility. Someone please elucidate!

It's a poorly acted remake of the Swedish series The Sandham Murders... Relationship between detective and his married lady friend was annoying in the original, and even worse in this copycat series

The lead investigator's role was totally unbelievable!

He's supposed to be the prototypical divorced, burnout alcoholic cop whose career accolades are the only reason he hasn't been fired or forced into retirement. Except....this dude's like 12 years old! He doesn't look like a grizzled veteran! Not his baby face, his attire, his squinting eyes, or his flat expressions....none of it suggested that he is drunk & sleep-deprived. Homeboy just looked like he has allergies!!

Besides the poor casting, another head-scratcher was all the damn running! This guy would roll up on every scene jogging, but never got sweaty or out of breath. In one scene, Detective Gump arrives (via his police cruiser) at the home of a key witness, presumably at least 1 hour after she left the scene....but he still ran around looking for her. Literally...he ran. And then ran some more from Location to location like a bloodhound finding a scent.

What was wrong with his car? Are there no taxis or other cruisers available??

I just couldn't take the show seriously after seeing him do it nearly 20 times in the first two episodes.

What was very good about this suspense murder drama that each season only had 3 episodes with perfect editing.Everything was wonderful about this entire show/series After a long time i saw an old fashioned type of romance(in both seasons)which involved long meaningful glances and unspoken words which was a refreshing change from the totally vulgar explicitly wild shocking display of....... 8/10

Only good thing is the landscape

Amateurish.The detective falls in love with a woman, who is suddenly involved in all the crimes and in constant danger, so he can save her. He acts so poorly that he seems catatonic. I suddenly realized it is a spin off of 'The Sandhamn Murders'. The most annoying Sweedish series ever, with a woman, supposedly the heroine, stalking the policeman. It is a mystery to me, why Sweedish people like this. I detest it.

I´ve found the series really intriguing, it keeps you watching till the end. (I have to add, though, that I haven´t seen "The Sandham Murders" yet, so I don´t know if it´s just a copy as it was mentioned here.) That said, I highly recommend it!

I don't know why I added my list, I was searching something to watch and I started. Thanks God it is short mini series :) first season was OK, nothing new actually in there, second started so stupidity because why it happened in the same place and with same characters.. it was so boring.

Our First Polish Movie

We have been watching on TV numerous crime movies from various countries in Europe. We find them valuable for listening to different languages, some familiar in sound some not. We see lots of landscapes that are new to us. This Polish movie is great for landscape, language familiarity for its sound, a compelling story, and fine acting!

I am enjoying this show right now. Just got on the second series. Overall I found it not too bad, the major stars are good actors. Was a low budget made show though. I am disappointed there were only two series made I would have liked more.

Congrates to the Polish writers, producers and crew! Both season are long enough to keep a very good story and short enogh for the viewer to want to see more! Very good story line, acting and perfect location. Makes you want to be there!
