The story, as written
GwydionMW12 June 2018
This is a straightforward adaptation of the original story. The technology has been updated and the dialogue expanded. No surprises to anyone who knows the original.

If you're new, expect to be shocked and moved. An inherently strong story.

But it also does not address the flaws of the original, which you can find discussed on the Wiki page for The Cold Equations.

Powerful yet poignant

I was unsure what to expect, but I wasn't expecting to feel so many emotions in such a short time period! Very well filmed, with realistic characters and universe. It was so short -- I wanted to know more about the setting and the characters' backgrounds, but for a short film, I felt like I got to know the characters as well as possible, and also I was able to understand the situation and outcome very well. Definitely worth your time.

A Moral Condundrum

Though the bare facts presented to the ships pilot in this situation should lead to an easy decision, it is our inherent humanity that forces a rethinking of the value of a single life before us, and its value compared to that of countless others.

A Careless Decision

I felt so sorry for the guy who had to carry out his orders. He is on a humanitarian mission. This young woman in her selfish impatience has put herself in deadly danger and the man in an untenable situation. He has the lives of many in his hands and yet the girl is so young and innocent.

The simplicity of story represents the heart of this powerful short film about siblinghood , duty, price to save lives and sacrifice. A girl looking to see her brother. A pilot in very difficult dilemma. A dialogue and the sacrifice saving the others. And a gift. A film about options. Its cold poetry remains the main precious gift to the viewer.
