- GaffesFisk tells the story about the Good Samaritan wrong. It wasn't a (Christian) priest who left the wanderer to die but a kohen, a Jewish priest. The wanderer and the Levite were also Jewish. This is important because the one helping the wanderer ends up to be the Samaritan although Samaritans and Jews despised each other. Therefore Jesus teaches to love and help everyone who is in need.

Season 1: Satisfyingly dark tone with engaging narrative, characters and performances even if some elements are a occasionally bit weaker than the whole
It was a tweet saying that this show is better than it deserves to be that made me eventually take to Netflix to watch this. The silliness of the concept did rather put me off, and of course there was the issue that my only previous contact with this character had been the Ben Affleck film – albeit that film looked a lot better once I had walked out of the terrible Elekra (over a decade later and I still remember that). Anyway, with the Netflix series it turns out that the tweet was totally right, because although there are limits to the series, it is actually surprising good.
The limits are very much the aspects of it that I personally find a bit daft. I understand this is a comic of course, but there are elements of this blind hero that seem a bit silly when put alongside the darker tone that the series generally has. It is this darker tone and other interesting elements that keep the show moving along. Wisely, Daredevil is kept human throughout; okay he has amazing powers through his training, however we never forget that he is Matt Murdock in a mask – and that the beatings he gives out tend to be just as brutal as the ones he receives. This approach applies to Fisk, and as charismatic a villain as he is, he is also fairly human and engaging as such. Although sometimes the writing cannot make the most of the characters, generally they are interesting as they are all on their different journeys.
The plot threads for these are mostly pretty good; each episode is satisfying in and of itself, while also fitting into the overall whole. There are some threads that seem to just start or end suddenly, but as whole there is a good forward movement of characters and overall narrative. The tone is nicely dark too, with satisfying violence, some twists, and an actual sense of real danger even if it is very much in a comic book world. The production values bring this out, and the show does mostly look the part throughout. The cast also match this. I wasn't totally sure about Cox at first but he grew on me. Woll and Henson less so perhaps, but both were decent in support. D'Onofrio uses his bulk to good effect here, and has a real presence which supports his sudden violent moments – he manages to take his violence and connect it to his origin story really well, making it impacting but without the viewer losing him. Moore is good in support, while Gunton, Dawson, Curtis-Hall, Glenn, and others all add to the feeling of quality.
It is not a perfect show, and some of the dialogue and narrative threads are a little clunky at times, but mostly it works well. The overall narrative is solid, and the individual character threads work well, thanks to some strong performances and a generally satisfyingly violent tone and presentation throughout.
