Okay.

Warning: Spoilers
LandLocked is not a great film, but it is decent. LandLocked is not a horror movie!

The story is of some brothers dealing with the loss of their father. The youngest son, Mason, finds the old family videos and a weird camera that allows him to see into the past. The cast seem to be actual family members and the video appears to be old family movies.

Altogether, it is a bit too pretentious and vague. Trying to rely too much on metaphors and symbolism that will fly right over most viewer's heads, as it did mine.

So what happened in LandLocked? Spoilers here. My theories ranged from aliens (the lights in the sky), Mason already being dead (the red tape has a date of 3 days after he was born), to the family covering up something (perhaps Mason's accidental death). None of these ideas appear to be correct. In fact, it looks like they were trying to point out that living in the past at the expense of living your life is a bad idea... which was not in the least bit obvious to me.

SUCKED!

Warning: Spoilers
One word - SUCKED.... There was a lot of explaining that this movie failed to do.

1. What was the symbolism of the bugs? Any idea? I had no clue and neither did Owens apparently.

2. Ok, so it see's into the past....past what? Being a baby, some family time, and then flashing forward to toddlers and back and forth for almost 75 minutes?

3. How did dad die? We see glimpses of a supernatural being that obviously was burned in a fire along with an eluding that there was a fire - what fire? When? Not at the house obviously because it didn't burn down. Then the figure mysteriously steals a VHS which we never see whats on it........

4. Virtually no character development at all - a strange lady shows up "oh hey, I used to live here, blah blah" tours the house and then.....leaves.....ummmm huh?

5. And then that ending????? What the heck???

Soooooo the premise is: Dude finds a camera hidden in a closet, and has 2 brothers (I guess, Owens never really says who they are). Brother #1 takes the camera, dumps it in the trash and then...leaves (ok..that was weird). Brother #2 shows up, wants to fix an old rust bucket car in the yard and then.....leaves. In the end, dude crawls down a heater vent in the floor, see's his brothers in different rooms glued to televisions and then finds dad......Are we to believe that all of the characters are dead and in some sort of limbo...

Very good and unique film.

I loved this film. Something about it felt deeply personal to me, I must be about the same age as the creators early 30's because I can relate to everything, having a similar video camera as a kid. The rope swing, the Halloween mask. Knowing all the actors are related and the home videos are from their past makes it very touching, although an unsettling and dark movie but it is also touching at times too. I enjoyed the story and the concept was really cool. Simple and affective. There isn't much dialogue but it doesn't need it. It goes to show you if you have talent you don't need a big budget to make a good film. I give it 10 I'm rooting for them and I would like to see more in the future.

Brilliant.

This is the best found footage movie I have ever seen. It travels at the speed of life before slipping into the nooks and crannies of memory and desire. A film about filming. What we we see. What we wish wed'd seen and splitting the difference. A boy and his memories and the importance of salvaging them before it all comes crashing down. And the nexus comes and the point of no return comes and goes; then it happens. And you're never sure it happened at all.

Brilliant filmmaking from a new talent I can hardly wait where he goes next and what he'll find there.

Highly appreciated and recommended to film aficionados and lovers of story.
