As the fictional drug 'dmtsoup' takes hold, the typical stages of most psychedelic drugs are spread throughout the duration of the movie. (i.e. the peak being during the salvia sequence)
The movie is split into 5 layers of the drug's strength. The first being what actually occurs, Chris having received the package and awaking the next morning. The second being his first encounter with Tom, in which they smoke and awake after completing their task. The third occurs once they are entranced by The Phantom in the forest and teleport through a ghost city. The fourth being the MDMA pill Chris receives as a birthday gift and the fifth being when Chris smokes salvia and encounters his final card game.
Tom's character is often the driving force of drug use. Firstly in which he calls Chris to the park, in which they end up smoking, and many later points throughout the film, including his MDMA birthday gift for Chris and his conversation luring Chris into trying salvia.
Dmtsoup was initially being released in episodic format online as a web series. However, do to the complicated arch of the storyline; it was then merged into a film. While the episodes did include unauthorized licensed music, the soundtrack was completely remade for the film by Chris Budziszewski.
The soundtrack is a combination of new tracks by Citizens on Patrol (Chris Budziszewski's solo music persona)and already released but reworked songs using time alterations and reversals.
