Not quite as excellent as before but a solid second part.

Warning: Spoilers
There is no doubt the first part of this mini series was one of the strongest depictions of a poltergeist in quite sometime and though this second part is slightly weaker its still a winner thanks to some frights, top acting and a emotional story that seems to work even when it isn't at a scary moment.

After the attack on himself and Janet Guy now believes everything the family say and though Maurice doesn't like it they call in medium Lindy Craine who is taken over by a nasty entity called Joe which also takes over young Janet and the entity Joe mocks Maurice over his daughter Janet's death,he learns that Joe was a former occupant of the house and who's 12 year old daughter died. Maurice also finds out Guy is writing a book about all this which upsets him before we learn the entity is so powerful it takes over Janet's sister Margaret too.

A slightly slower but still spooked packed hour with sublime acting, proper frights and real emotion you would never get in a recent Hollywood horror picture.

Timothy Spall again leads this expertly with his back story about his tragic daughters death being a strong part of this story and this is one of the finest roles for him to date,i also love his scenes with Janet and he brings out a warmer nature in the young girl and they both begin to care about one another with Maurice wanting rid of the poltergeist and Janet caring about Maurice's health and home life. Janet is played by unbelievable young talent Eleanor Worthington-Cox who steals the show from nearly all older cast members even when in a room full of them, this girl is outstanding in the lighter scenes when she makes you chuckle or in the spooky scenes or slower scenes with her family or Maurice,i have not been so impressed by a child actor in a very long time than I am by young Cox and is a star in the making.

Other stars play their part especially Matthew Macfadyen as Guy who has a strong partnership with Maurice and has more to do than last time and is warmer in character now. Also Juliet Stevenson has more to do as Maurice's grieving wife Betty and though doesn't want to believe the Hodgson family to start with she slowly begins to think things are happening beyond their control.

This is a slower episode than before but there is still plenty to excite like when Janet stays with someone else but is followed by the poltergeist who torments her there, the medium getting overtaken by foul mouthed Joe before Janet does too which the new ghost hunting team see when Janet goes all swear words on them before a final chilling scene where Margaret talks in Joe's voice and Janet gets attacked by flying insects which reminds me of moments in quality possession horror movie The Possessed which also starred a outstanding young actress.

The scenes about Maurice's daughter also named Janet are very strong too and are very sad to watch with him and wife Betty drifting apart because of their grieving, also scenes with Maurice and Hodgson Janet stand out and a true caring friendship is there between them that she even likes being with him over her layabout father.

Less exiting than before but still brilliant most the time with award worthy acting especially from young Cox and Spall as well as chilling sequences and heart wrenching emotional running through.
