Back to the Bayou - Part I (2014)

*** (out of 4)

This here is the first of a two part interview with Burt Reynolds that has the actor taking a look back at this films WHITE LIGHTNING and GATOR. This one here focuses on the first film and he starts off talking about how it was originally going to be directed by Steven Spielberg but the director felt uneasy leaving the studio. From here he talks about the man who did direct the movie as well as stunt coordinator Hal Needham. From here he talks about the cast members as well as the film's release. If you're a fan of WHITE LIGHTNING or of Reynolds then you'll certainly enjoy this short featurette. It clocks in at just nine-minutes but the actor tells some very good stories about the production of the film and it's certainly worth watching if you're a fan.

Warning: Spoilers
Star Burt Reynolds talks about the making of "White Lightning" in this enjoyable and engrossing 10-minute interview. Reynolds starts out by noting this was the first film in which he played a rascally character. He also reveals that Steven Spielberg was originally asked to direct the picture, but turned said offer down after he panicked due to the fact that he had only directed stuff on a studio lot instead of on location. Reynolds praises stuntman and second unit director Hal Needham for his tremendous courage and athletic ability as well as relates a neat anecdote about a car stunt that went somewhat awry. Reynolds also praises Ned Beatty, talks about Jennifer Billingsley being nude for real for a skinny dipping scene, and describes R.G. Armstrong as a strong man. Reynolds further discusses how the film proved to be a bigger hit up north than in the south. Worth a watch for fans of the film.
