- "The Blacklist" - "Monarch Douglas Bank" - Sept.29, 2014
We open in Warsaw, Poland where men in white suits rob Monarch Douglas Bank. They push all the customers to the ground. Shut off the security system and yell "six minutes."
We cut to Red who is welcoming his cleaner to help dispose of three bodies. She says this business pursuing his wife, she doesn't like it. He tells her to handle her job and he'll take care of his.
He gets a cal from a man telling him about the Warsaw bank heist. We see that the men threw gas on the floor as they left-- after rifling through some safe deposit boxes and stealing some cash-- and set it on fire.
He goes to his cleaner and apologizes saying he is far out on a limb. She tells him to take a moment and says they will find his wife.
We cut to Berlin taunting Red's wife. She says hurting her will do no good since Red doesn't care about her and that's why she was hiding, to protect her child.
We cut to Red getting a manicure. Liz arrives. He ignores a question about whether he's found his ex-wife. She tells him that she can confirm that his daughter Jennifer was placed in protective custody with her mother in 1990 but the marshal service lost contact 7 years ago. She is unaccounted for.
He tells her about the bank heist. The bank is headquartered in the U.S. and within Liz's jurisdiction.
Liz heads back to the Post Office and shows Aram and Cooper and Ressler pics of bad guys who launder their money through the bank. The heisters were looking for a ledger of the transactions. They figure if hey can get it they will be in good shape.
Ressler and Liz decamp for Warsaw, being photographed and followed by a woman in a van.
Red receives another box. Inside, one of his ex-wife's teeth.
Ressler and Liz meet their counterpart on the ground and are told they are not allowed to make arrest in-country. They meet a bank official who seems to want to cooperate wit the investigation. The official goes to a colleague and yells at him that the "Formula" is missing, the clients are mad, and if hey don't fix it now they're all dead.
Berlin asks someone to make him a prosthetic hand and then he takes a call from someone named Colonel Yusuf.
At the bank Ressler notices a surveillance camera outside. Aram can't get a lot off of it except them going in and out. Five bad guys go in and six came out. The extra person was a woman who was kidnapped and worked at the bank.
They go to the woman's apartment. The man who brings her says she always had guards with her and they notice cameras in her apartment.
They get a call saying the getaway van was found, torched. Liz finds a red substance. She calls Red who asks if it's flammable. It is. Red say it's jam from a jelly donut. Red tells her to get rest and he'll be there in 3 hours.
Berlin calls the bank, he's mad about the heist and how it's screwing up his plans. He orders the bank manager back to work. He sees Red's ex-wife throwing her shoe at the camera. Her food is taken away but not before she steals what looks like a chicken bone.
Red meets an older lady in a pastry shop that he seems to know well. He enjoys a donut. In the back of the donut shop the nice old lady is selling automatic weapons. He tells her her customers robbed the bank and she needs to talk. Apaprently she does and Ressler and Keen rush in to help. They tell the woman she is safe now. She's not happy to see them and says she was safe, the kidnapping was staged because she was trying to escape.
Ressler and Liz take the woman to a safe house. Cooper, on the phone, asks her for a statement.
Strickland, the bank manager, meets with Berlin who mocks him. Strickland says the situation is under control and Berlin needs to be patient. Berlin threatens to peel him like a grape. Strickland says his assets are safe because of the "Formula." Turns out that the "Formula" is the woman who was kidnapped. She has a beyond photographic memory. In interrogation with Ressler she explains how she knows all the account numbers and all that jazz and she was under constant watch. She then became a prisoner. She then drained the accounts of all the criminals. The bank heist people were helping her escape and she staged it that way so there would be an investigation. Liz wants to take her back to the States but her counterpart says no way and suddenly turns on her and punches her. The guy, who has armed back up outside, clearly has other plans for the woman. He and Liz fight until one of them shoots through the one way glass and alerts Ressler to the ruckus. Liz is thrown to the ground and Ressler goes after the guy. The woman, now alone in the room, sees the armed men outside the door.
Ressler and Liz stop the guy and ask who he's working for. He's says it's a matter of national security. Suddenly the woman following them busts in with a gun and tells them to vamoose while she covers them. Ressler asks how they can trust her, she tells them to go. The three of them make a break for it in a cab. The woman is bleeding and Ressler is trying to help as Liz yells at him for his reaction time being crap and the cabbie complaining that they are ruining his car seats. He sticks a tampon inside her to stanch the bleeding.
Back at Berlin's Red's ex-wife fakes a stomach ache and is let go and stabs her captor in the eye with the chicken bone and runs. She makes it to a room and locks the door and spots a window but it won't open and the drop is long. She ties an extension cord to a radiator as Berlin yells at her outside the door. She breaks the glass but it's a fake out. She's hiding under the table. But it doesn't work. He finds her. He does call her clever though.
The cab is stopped at a roadblock. The cabbie calls attention to them and the three of them make a break for it away from police. They steal a car and call Cooper and tell him about the Mossad agent who helped them, Samar Navaby. He tells them to get off the streets. Red calls Liz and directs her to his man in Warsaw to get them out. He's arranged for a diversion to cover them getting to the guy: a car explosion. They make it to a train car. The woman is still bleeding. Ressler gives the woman painkillers. She starts giving him account numbers as her dying declaration. He says she's not dying today. She admits that she knew the bank was evil and she looked the other way. Suddenly the train stops and armed men board the car. It's Red! He saves the day. Except that he wants to take her-- against Ressler's objections-- and is sending them back first class back home. He has his armed guards make sure they make their flight.
Red calls Berlin just as he's about to engage in some more torture of Red's wife and says it's time they meet.
Berlin and Red meet at Coney Island. Lots of their men look on around the park bench. Berlin notes it's been a long time coming. Red says he hopes it's been worth it given the waste of time, blood, and money, for what? Berlin says revenge, which is his passion. Red tells the story about a girl he went to camp with named Twyla who was anorexic. He wonders if Berlin's passion is actually his sickness. Berlin answers that Red's wife is coming apart nicely. Red says they have a common enemy: whoever told Berlin that Red killed his daughter. He tells him that he's done torturing his wife because he has something Berline wants: his money, thanks to the bank lady. He says he had her transfer to all the money to another count and now all his checks are bouncing so he says he will trade his money for his wife, or he can kill his wife and Red will keep his money.
Back at the Post Office, Cooper is apoplectic that they lost Red and the woman. Ressler thinks Red double crossed him because he had money in that bank. Liz thinks he's up to something else.
Berlin recounts his long search for Red and how he made the connection through Liz. He says he knows Red cares for her as much as his wife. He says he's offering him money for that reason and is blinded by his passion. He tells Red to have his people set up a meeting with his people.
Liz finds Red's "manicurist" who is actually a surgeon and is helping treat the bank lady. She then calls Red and accuses him of doing all this to steal the money to get his wife back. Red says it's a storybook ending. Liz says she can't allow him to give the money back to Berlin since it will fund terror and mean many deaths not a fair trade for one women. Red says she doesn't get a vote. Liz drops the bomb that they found the bank lady and froze the accounts where Red stashed Berlin's money. He notes his wife will die. She says she's sorry. He says she isn't but will one day when she realizes this was the moment she turned. Red says the deal is going forward. Liz notes he can't hold up his end now that the money is gone and Berlin will kill him. Red tells her to wish him luck.
Red goes to the meeting. Berlin releases his wife. Redhas Dembe give him "the codes." A man enters them and money appears to be there and transferred. Dembe helps her to the car she is broken. Red doesn't remove her blindfold. Berlin gives him an air kiss and drives off.
Back at the Post Office the bank lady dictates the account numbers. Cooper learns that the American agent in Warsaw was actually operating under FBI orders to protect the bureau that was using the bank to fund operations.
Liz goes and apologizes to Ressler for yelling at him in the cab and says he did good. He agrees he was amazing, jokingly. But he is clearly sad. H e opens a drawer and regards his pill bottle.
Samar Vanaby meets with Cooper and offers him some info on how she cracked his operation. He's impressed. He asks what she wants.
Liz goes to see Red. He thanks her. She says he's an asset she's charged with protecting and she transferred the money to protect him and every life from here on out that Berlin takes is on Red's head. She tells him she hopes she's worth it. He says he thought about how Liz knew Berlin had his money in that bank and realized that Liz has her own secret source. He says when she's ready to share it, he'd love to hear it. She wonders how they can trust the bank lady gave up all of the account info, perhaps saving it to pay for her new identity and help friends like Red. Red says he has no friends. Liz leaves. Red takes a call from Samar who says she's in now and that she looks forward to working with him. He says all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
Dembe drives Red's ex-wife somewhere in the night.
