Investigating the murder of a counterfeit scammer requires local expertise only to be found in prison, by deal with the person Russ trusts least: his mother Constance. Milt and the commander are OK with risking letting her out of jail for the duration, to face contact life, and she manages to charm and/or scam everyone in the precinct. As Russ feared, she shamelessly follows her own agenda to contact accomplices, notably her lover, in pursuit of secret loot and an escape attempt. The web of lies is spun by mutual cheaters and victims, tying up several recent and older crimes, while Russ wonders about her true/lack of maternal feelings for him.
