Pretty fun watch
hycnknmd22 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(SLIGHT SPOILER WARNING) The film hanky panky was a very interesting and fun watch. The acting in the film was pretty good considering its a film with a small budget and unserious story line about a killer hat and a horny napkin. The CGI and special effects were pretty okay ish but i think low use of CGI worked in the films advantage because I think the decision to use string puppets to move the puppet characters and leaving the strings in and un-edited adds on to the fun and un seriousness of the movie. I do think the film could have leaned more in to the horror aspect of the film and made the horror sense a little more serious and suspenseful but of course that's my opinion and maybe I am just really desensitized and do not scare easily. I think the best part of the movie was the fight scene between the two main puppets but i do wish that it was a longer scene like maybe 7 to 10 minutes longer but once again that's my opinion. Overall i rate the movie a 4 out of 5 stars, i would probably watch it again and recommend.

Very Interesting and entertaining!

Warning: Spoilers
This movie was definitely not what I expected by the trailer, but was very interesting. I like how the plot was continuously surprising and kept me engaged. I also liked how the character development throughout the movie was very clear when it came to understanding each individual character throughout the movie. I will say that in the beginning of the film, I was a bit confused with who already knew who and why they were in the cabin in the first place, and it took me a while to figure out why they were there and who invited them. I think that it could have been a bit more clear if the characters were introduced differently. I like how Sam's character had a different type of personality and how throughout the film, you could tell that his social anxiety was slowly improving and he became less nervous around people. The rag, Woody was like his emotional support, which I thought was funny and interesting. I do like how there was a good amount of time in the beginning and middle of the film before the problem starts, it was really good leading up to what was going to happen. Overall, I think that it was a really entertaining film.

A Hanky Panky Review
qualitymomentproductions12 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Hanky Pank, directed by Lindsey Hau and Nick Wraith, starts off with a riveting sequence that immediately grabs the audience's attention. The film opens with a man desperately navigating a snowy field in search of cell reception, creating an immediate sense of urgency and tension. The accompanying music complements the visuals perfectly, intensifying the suspense and setting the stage for the impending murder of the cell phone man.

The sound design in the initial scenes is commendable, effectively establishing the mood for the unfolding narrative. As the story progresses, the film introduces a series of intriguing questions, prompting viewers to speculate about the identity of the culprit. The questioning interpretation surrounding the main characters adds an extra layer of engagement, particularly when one of them arrives at a cabin, leaving us to ponder whether he is the mysterious suspect.

The film seamlessly blends suspense with humor, introducing a refreshing dynamic. The incorporation of a voice from Sams napkin and playful music injects humor into the storyline. This begins offering a welcome break from the tension. This touch of comedy not only lightens the mood but also provides a relatable element for the audience. But maybe in the sense of someone being in our head. Like Sam thought it was until someone else can hear it too.

Despite being a low-budget production, the film manages to captivate viewers with its suspenseful plot and the lingering questions it leaves behind. However, the budget constraints become noticeable, especially for those with a keen eye for technical details. As a videographer, the varying audio devices and their distinct levels of noise might be distracting, although the average viewer may not find it as distracting.

One notable critique revolves around the film's pacing, which, in my opinion occasionally feels sluggish. A slightly faster pace could enhance the overall viewing experience and maintain the audience's engagement. I would say it happens by trying to incorporate to much horror and comedy doubling the time on one scene.

However, overall Hanky Pank succeeds in blending suspense and humor, delivering an intriguing narrative despite its budget limitations. While technical aspects may be more noticeable to those versed in videography, the film offers an enjoyable experience for the general audience, leaving them with lingering questions and a desire for more.

Warning: Spoilers
Hanky Panky was such an awesome film to watch, it was entertaining and fun. It was noticeable that the film had a low budget but the acting was actually pretty good. I loved the concept of the film. Hanky Panky is sort of like a Murder Mystery, a killer hat. Something I feel like the film could've done better with was with the CGI effects, if the effects would have been better I feel like this film could receive pretty good ratings. I am a huge horror fan, so after watching this film all I have to say is, it wasn't horror, it seemed more of suspenseful comedy. If you're familiar with Scary Movie you could see the similarities between the films. I enjoyed the film because it seemed like a parody, the over exaggerated acting as well as the silly fight between the puppets. I would definitely recommend this movie to other people because I simply enjoyed it too much. If I had to rate it from q scare of 1-10 I would rate it a 7. Again the film didn't seem to be well budgeted, but the script was well written and the acting was enjoyable to watch. Overall the film was great, although I would love to see some more horror vibes, maybe throw in some jumpscares to spice it up. Another suggestion of mine would be to use different forms of humor, the jokes seemed a little played out, especially the sexual jokes, the film had the potential to include a lot of things that could have made it a really great film.

Unhinged comedy with murder mystery vibes
bsalem-7258813 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A murder mystery and moose-shroom trip all in one, "Hanky Panky", is an unhinged comedy that will have you wondering, am I tripping on moose shrooms too? With clueless, awkward yet lovable characters, this film combines unique elements that you don't typically get with standard cabin in the wood's movies. "Hanky Panky" is a horror comedy in a fever dream that takes place in a remote snow-covered cabin, that houses a group of friends just around the holiday season. Writer and co-director Nick Roth, cleverly combined a unique cast with the perfect amount of chemistry to keep the laughter going but suspense high. Are they actually friends or are they secretly each other's worst enemies? Is the paranoia coming from undiagnosed mental illnesses amongst the group or are they all tripping on rare moose shrooms? Every time you think you know what's going on you are surprised with another comical head-scratching moment. Father figure and lover in one, who would have thought a perverted talking handkerchief named Woody could be so intriguing and even have his own redemption arc. Woody is almost like a sidekick to Sam, one of the unexpected guests accidentally invited to the getaway, that has this raunchy thirst to wipe up spills resulting in unwarranted happy endings. (Spoiler alert) The creepy little napkin turns out to be somewhat of the film's hero. With its own rendition of "Funeral March", it sets the horror tone for the film, but you can't help but to laugh throughout most of it, even when bodies are hitting the floor. Overall, I recommend this movie if you want to have some laughs while playing along with the murder mystery yourself.

Solid fun time

Warning: Spoilers
Hanky Panky! A horror comedy film directed by Lindsey Haun and Nick Roth. Surprisingly, I had a lot of fun with this movie. I went in with the lowest expectation after reading the bio and watching the trailer, but I'm not lying when I said I had a good time with this film. Issues with this film are a few nitpicks such as I wish the film went deeper into the horror element because I did feel Evil Dead vibes throughout the film, just with less horror. Also in the scenes where Sam would talk to Woody, I felt that he should have whispered instead of yelled because he already felt crazy for being able to communicate with a napkin, why yell it out if he doesn't want people to think of him as a crazy guy who talks to a napkin. Such as the scene when he stepped out of dinner to talk to Woody in the bathroom, it would have made more sense to whisper to Woody. But the positives I do have with this film are, well for starters, I never thought I'd ever watch a movie where I would be attached to a napkin. The final battle between the napkin and the hat was awesome. The film already introduced the evil hat and the diabolic killings it committed, so I had that hatred towards him. The film did an amazing job in making me side with Woody to take down the hat. The acting, was great. I could tell everyone was passionate and enjoyed making this movie. Overall, I had a good time with this film, I already know that this whole crew will keep improving as they make more projects.

Funny Writing and Entertaining Interactions!

Warning: Spoilers
Lindsey Haun's "Hanky Panky" delivers laughter from the very first line, then later evolves into a deeper, yet still hilarious storyline for those who want a good laugh from a quick flick they've never seen. While displaying some good horror elements, it's clear that it's not supposed to be taken too seriously and was made with fun being completely in mind. The characterization of Sam's mental unsteadiness and insecurities due to the fact that he could communicate with a napkin was definitely interesting to see. As well as a moment of vulnerability towards the topic of his father. I didn't know what to expect of this movie but I actually enjoyed myself because of the engaging and comedic script between the core characters in the cabin. Overall, this movie is a good watch for those who want a nice laugh while enjoying a little bit of serious (yet still goofy) lore. As well as simply exploring something new!

Comedy murder mystery
dominiqueredfearn15 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Part comedy, part murder mystery, "Hanky Panky" takes viewers on a journey of a sentient napkin and his encounters with an unsuspecting group of friends.

It has a great ensemble cast who work well with each other and ultimately with the napkin puppet in a film that becomes a holiday trip with friends turned murder mystery. It takes place in a cabin around the holiday season as the ensemble of friends grapple with their relationship with each other and their realization that the napkin that their friend keeps has a personality with a murder mystery twist.

I thought that the fight scene at the end between the napkin and the hat was particularly entertaining because of the way that it was filmed. Despite the extended length of the scene, the graphics and the way it was puppeteered added suspense and comedic relief. The editing was really well done for the film and those portions.

I also enjoyed the references to other pieces of media such as "Cheers" through the character's names and through the font used in the title.

Overall, this low budget film is not something that I would typically seek out to watch but it's opened my eyes to films within this genre. It doesn't take itself seriously and that adds to the enjoyment of it. The references to other films and tv and the originality with adding puppets like the napkin and the hat to the ensemble of cast is a smart and unexpected twist. I recommend it to anyone looking for a mystery and comedy.

Chaos done right!!
smiller-4366513 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
At first, I was very weirded out by the tone of the film and it's characters. However, as my time viewing the film played out the characters, the comedy and dialogue grew on me and was able to enjoy the story without bias. I enjoyed the quick - family guy style cutaways such as when cliff and Diane are having the therapy session. The set coming to life and change of tone worked really well. The editing was also top notch with the final fight scene. I think the movie's two biggest strength is it's awkward comedy and the character arc of it's main character. The main character sam starts out as this awkward, anxious and honestly uncomfortable to watch loser trying to navigate his way through this impossible social situation. Throughout the film, we can really see him come into his own and leave his shell that he started the movie out with, and essentially achieved his goal. The character dynamics were also really interesting. With that being said, there were also some low points in the film. The excessive nudity was not well received and weirdly placed in the film. The dialogue was also stiff at times. I understand the awkward tone that was being placed on purpose, but it was a bit too much at times. Additionally, scenes tended to drag too much, especially toward the end where there should have been cuts. The fight scene was entertaining, but long and the character relationships couldv'e been formed better, romantically and in general. The romantic relationship of the main two characters was eluded to, but not developed enough and felt forced at the end. With that being said, the takeaway of this movie for me is to find comfortability in yourself and who you are as a person. I love the editing and hope to see a sequel!!.

Funny and entertaining!
mehrsamalekzadeh-1341926 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed watching Hanky Panky, it gave me the nostalgia that I got from watching 2000's Parody films such as the scary movie series, starving games, Epic movie, and many more. An aspect that I really enjoyed from the film would be the comical jokes throughout the "serious" altercation between the friends, Napkin, and the Hat. I did feel that the intended audience would probably be college students and young adults because the sense of humor was childish yet the content is definitely meant for adults and more mature audiences, not so much a family friendly movie. I would rate this movie a 8 out of 10 stars for a few reasons. The characters are all unique with different backgrounds, complicated and playful. Some of the concepts however could be controversial, (Spoiler alert), topics of incest, nudity and drugs. The acting was a bit dramatic at times, probably in order to emphasize the emotions of the characters, but I was surprised to see that Seth Green voices Harry the Hat, and also featuring Clare Grant was awesome. It was fun to see these actors play on a role that is very different from the movies that they are known for. I also did feel that some of the sexual jokes felt repetitive, however the film is not supposed to be taken seriously, It is simply supposed to entertain the audience and make them laugh, which it definitely does. The editing was also comical in some scenes, it looked like it was edited on an i-movie App which made it hilarious as it was unexpected, such as the random explosion during the fight scene. It would be very fun movie to watch it with close friends.

Silly, weird, and full of heart!
stormonhbo15 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Hanky Panky is a wild ride from start to finish. The story opens with Sam and Woodie, an overwhelmed, horny napkin who is eager to clean up messes. Soon after arriving at a cabin in the middle of nowhere, an array of characters arrives, and the true "weirdness" of the movie commences.

I had to say this is unlike anything I've seen before. This could honestly be a good and bad thing. There are some qualities about this movie that weren't my favorite. The SPX and CGI took me out of the story just because....it wasn't the best. The editing tended to be a bit choppy at times. There was a moment where Darla was introduced and their musical cue that I wasn't too sure if it was meant to be offensive or not.

However, the heart of this movie is the characters. The introductions and excitement of their stories reminded me a lot of Clue. Especially how slowly each character started to reveal things about themselves. I found myself loving and rooting for them by the end of it. I have to say Carla was by far my favorite (and what happened to her was truly a tragedy).

I enjoyed the film because of how unafraid of it was to be...well, what it was. The elements of comedy were a standout to me. There were moments that were ridiculous (it wasn't the fight between Woodie and Harry). Overall, Hanky Panky is a film that is full of silliness, heart, and a deep appreciation for napkins everywhere.
