Boy Meets Boy takes viewer on suspenseful ride.
raymondreitsma1 December 2015
Boy Meets Boy is a fast-paced, suspenseful thriller that will keep the viewer on the edge of their seat. The film is well written, convincingly acted, and beautifully shot. With a distinctly "Hitchcockian" feel, the viewer quickly appreciates the unusual and creative camera work by the director. At the same time, we develop empathy and compassion for the central character who we find on a quest for perfection and looking for love. In watching the story unfold, we experience mystery and suspense at nearly every turn. At 10 minutes, the movie runs at a fast and furious pace, and leaves us with no choice but to hang on and enjoy the ride.

The small film that feels like a BIG one
elvismay8 August 2015
This little gem of a film explores the anxieties of online dating, and what happens when Boy Meets Boy...

From the very first image that appears on the screen, you the viewer are aware that you are dealing with professionals. This isn't some rag-tag group of wannabes creating a short film for a school project. These are serious craftsmen. Maybe you don't think like that. Maybe I think like that because I'm a filmmaker. Maybe you will just be drawn in. I mean it does what these films are supposed to do, from the very instant the moving images cross our eyes, from the moment the sound design hits our ear drums...it takes us away. Where we are going we still are not sure, but we get the time to focus on nothing but these characters, for the 10 minutes or so it takes to tell this story.

The actors Johnathan MacPherson, Charles Zuckerman, and Mike Azevedo (who also co-created the story) are all obviously well skilled in their craft. They each hold the screen and your attention without fail. But it's the screenplay, written by Simona Atias which really blew my mind. While admittedly there is a obvious lack of dialog, what few words are said are central to the story. And the story, written by Azevedo and Atias, frankly deserves a feature length film type expansion.

While the film stands on it's own as a creative, outstanding short. Trimmed down in half it could easily be the intro to it's own film. These are not characters you want to leave so soon. The party seems to just be getting started, and as the title credit hits and the catchy music plays after the final frame...it really does feel like the beginning of the movie! Whether this short film ever does see an expansion or not, it stands fine on it's own. From the cinematography by Rob Crone to the modern editing style of Zachary Holden, From the cold production design of Moe Curtin to the brilliant score by Joe Docherty, these guys aren't messing around. Find a way to watch this film.

It left me wanting more .... in a good way!
vandama-462-5739785 August 2015
I watched this movie 5 times wondering if I had missed something, then I realized that it was a short film. 10 minutes of intense acting, terse dialogue and atmospheric directing. Aptly timed given the surge and popularity of on-line dating. This outlines what could possibly happen when on-line dating goes awry. I want to know what happened to the characters! Another short examining more of the characters personalities or a feature length film exploring more of their backgrounds, that would be great. I know this was a labor of love for Mike Azevedo and I know this is only the beginning for him and that we will see more from this talented creator and actor. Kudos to Charles Zuckermann for his intense portrayal of the dater. Great set design, lighting and editing. Bravo to all involved.

Thought provoking short film
djdesmedt25 April 2015
One of the many challenges in writing a script for a short movie is to ensure that we the audience can empathise with the characters within the first minute or so. The characters must be memorable with strong personalities. In Boy Meets Boy, you immediately get the main character Vincent - beautifully portrayed by Mike Azevedo - solitary but looking for love. Mysterious dark Steven - played by sexy Charles Zuchermann - will turn Vincent's perfect live upside down.

The script is very tight with economical dialogue and the director, Jonathan MacPherson, delivers an extremely atmospheric film; the cinematography is beautiful, almost shot in monochrome with crucial splashes of red, emphasising passion and fear.

Successive emotions carry you through the film ... fear, passion, suspense and terror to name a few; a kind of raw emotional journey.

Boy Meet Boy is a beautiful powerful honest movie showcasing the skills and talent of a great ensemble. I want to see the feature length movie they will no doubt be making one day.

Warning: Spoilers
I was wowed by this short film! Now I want more, and much, much, much longer!

Incredible amount of tension in its storyline from the start! This was all brought about with subtlety and brio!

Well acted, well directed! Great lighting, editing, sound and art-direction!

Again, I'd like to see more and longer films by Mike Azevedo! An excellent project! Merits expansion or sequels!

Though the film deals very tastefully with gay subject matter, it can be enjoyed by everyone, LGBT or not. I highly recommend Boy Meets Boy! It's a "perfect" little gem!

Boy Meets Boy
LakeSideDiner8 August 2015
Boy Meets Boy pays tribute to 50/60's Gothic thrillers we stayed up late to watch as kids but has a classier tone and updated plot based on the perils and pleasures of internet dating. It is a visual treat, filmed in various shades of grey, with red highlighting key points in the story line almost as if the colour was it's own character.

Mike Azevedo expertly displays his acting talent as he portrays Vincent, a fragile and lonely man stepping out of his comfort zone in search of love. His skill at revealing the character's vulnerabilities through the use of silence adds to the mysterious theme of the film. Charles Zuckermann plays the perfect foil with a lusty confidence that proves once again, opposites attract.

The entire film is a roller coaster of emotion and suspense packed into ten minutes and the ending leaves the audience with a few more questions than it answers. While it stands alone as a short, it would also make an excellent trailer for a lengthier film and we certainly hope there is a sequel in the works.

An Intriguing and Delicious Short Film
willfong4 December 2015
Boy Meets Boy is an intriguing blend of reality and horror, self identity and thrill. The tension and balance between these elements are constantly in motion in this fast-paced short film.

All the qualities of a feature film are here in spades in this outstanding nugget of a film. The quality and attention to detail are rare for this form, from the tight script and direction to the cinematography awash in moody reds to enhance the story.

Mike Azevedo delivers a powerful and raw performance. Not many actors could embody a lonely and vulnerable man struggling with self worth, and then someone who lusts for his next conquest, all within ten short minutes. If the premise sounds far-fetched, the final result certainly isn't. It's all the more impressive that Azevedo delivers the transformation so convincingly and effortlessly.

It isn't often that a short film makes such a delicious impression throughout. Think of Boy Meets Boy as that perfect appetizer: completely satisfying unto itself, but leaving you wanting so much more. Blood pudding, anyone?

Loved it!
canucks_lady7 August 2015
I really enjoyed watching this film. I wanted to see more after it ended! My sister and I had a discussion of what happened at the end (i don't want to give any spoilers), she had an opinion of what happened, and I had a totally different view from hers. I liked the "darkness" aspect of the film. It really drew me in. Mike Azevedo as the main character, he was excellent. I could feel his emotions through his acting. I would love to see him in more films. I was mesmerized for the whole ten minutes. Again, I wish it was longer! :D I'm sure everyone who has watched this film wishes for a sequel. I definitely recommend this short film to everyone.

Taut, interesting and atmospheric film worth the watch
susanmacnicol75 July 2015
The first thing that stood out to me in this film were the dark colours and Gothic cinematography. The atmospheric nature of the scenes drew you into the story and made you want to know more. The surreal feel of the film added to the overall theme of the movie and took the viewer on a journey through a man's dark reflections on his inner self.

The actor himself is mesmerising and lends an air of both vulnerability and narcissism to the role, showing a sense of self image and poignancy in the way he projects himself and sees the world around him.

The mise en scène in the film contributed to the characters aspirations to be perfect. In the end of course, he encounters someone who helps him achieve his goal to perfection.

A taut, well filmed and intelligent film.

Mysterious and intriguing on dating
adrianasn-154524 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Excellent short film that had to lots of excitement and intrigue. Definitely wanting a sequel. Mike Azevedo 's acting was sharp, and the setting and quality of the film was magical. The character of Vincent was thrilling and classy . The excitement of following the character's intrigue and mystery on this enticing relationship made me enjoy this film and kept me wanting more. Charles Zuckerman' s acting was awesome too.

Even with the spoiler of knowing on what happens when an elegant man takes a chance on love through an on-line dating service. I still want to see the sequel  and enjoy the acting of these 3 gentlemen.

A very captivating short film!
angeliki_ted27 May 2015
Wow! This is truly an exceptional and wonderful short film.

The screenplay has few words but is absolutely captivating. Mike Azevedo's brilliant portrayal of 'Vincent' draws you close to the character – you feel all the emotions that the character is experiencing at any given moment throughout this short film - nervousness, excitement, fear and a longing for love. Charles Zuckermann's portrayal of 'Steven' is equally captivating, dark and mysterious.

The camera work, lighting and sound effects are perfect! This truly deserves to be a much longer film!!!

Intense and beautifully filmed
TheHeadQuarters2 September 2017
As organizer of short film festivals, I've seen a lot of movies. This one is one of the few that stays with you.

The main character, Vincent, is wonderfully portrayed by Mike Azevedo. Within the first minutes of the short, you feel like you know Vincent for a long time and you know what it is he's looking for in live. Whatever it is, he hasn't found it, until this day, when he meets Steven (played by Charles Zuchermann).

Boy Meets Boy has a steady pace but is intense without exploding emotions all over the screen. It is beautifully filmed and framed and the actors really fill the screen.

The story would lend itself easily for a full feature length film.

No go see the short movie, what are you waiting for?
