Not for weak hearted

Anukshanam is a crime thriller which explores the mind of a serial killer. Needless to say RGV excels in this genre considering his past track record. There are many western movies with same concept but in India it may be the first of its kind.

In the western movies generally the villain have more edge than the hero and there are movies where the villains succeeds in outsmarting the heroes. Since its an Indian movie people expect that villain should be caught and punished. This film proves that we are certainly not ready to accept western climaxes.

The performances of revathi and vishnu are top notch. The movie is made of limited budget but the technical values are of good though there are some weird camera angles. There are some forced scenes especially those of brahmanandam's which water down the proceedings. Some scenes confuse us like the relation between killer and his mother, In a particular scene she asks her son to marry again and in the preclimax scene she admits that she knows how her son is.

All in all a good movie with excellent screenplay, direction and performances. RGV movies will not be viewed by masses like his previous outings unless some terrific word of mouth is in the air.

Girls Beware
suchipalem18 November 2015
The story is crime thriller about a Serial Killer and why he murders the girls and explores the mind of a serial killer. Gowtam (Vishnu Manchu) is an ACP and tries to nab the serial killer. A USA return behavioral science specialist Shailaja (Revathi) helps Gautam to catch the serial killer. Ram Gopal Varma has done a good job in directing the movie but there are no thrills in the movie. The story is told straight with out any twists in the tale. The acting by Vishnu Manchu is the best part in the movie. The idea behind the movie is good, as there are less number of movies that tell us the mind set of a serial killer. The Cons of the movie are no twists in the plot, simple narration. Overall the movie is a one time watch.

Not a great movie
dinuprof25 November 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Seems the rating is all beefed. Predictable story line, soggy script and is definitely not a suspense thriller. Not worth the watch. Even if you skip 75% of the movie, you can still predict the story. Not worth watching.

Anukshanam - Suspense Thriller Movie
aragonasher31 July 2017
Gowtam (Vishnu Manchu) is an ACP. A taxi driver is on rampage and starts killing beautiful women. As the rate at which the taxi driver tortures and kills his victims increases, there is lot of panic in the city and a lot of pressure on Gowtam to nab the serial killer. A US returned psychologist (Revathi) helps Gowtam to analyze the behavior and pattern of killing of serial killer. Meanwhile, killers enjoys the attention he is getting on TV. Rest of the story is all about how Gowtam traces down the serial killer and arrests him. Anukshanam is a watered down version of everything you expect from a slasher film, which explores the mind of a serial killer. It's also incredibly loud and monotonous in its approach; however, a gripping screenplay and short run time saves it from being downright silly. By the end you feel like you are watching completely different movie. Ram Gopal Varma tries to showcase his research on Psycho serial killers, and provide us possible indications about them (Extreme anti-social, Tendency towards to Voyeurism, Dominance from early age, Killing Animals, No remorse or regrets). Vishnu Manchu carries off his role as a serious cop quite well, although there are moments where a little amount of subtlety would have helped.

Warning: Spoilers
The movie has a psychopath killing young girls and a cop trying to catch him... The movie is full of killings and HSS hardly anything on psychological aspects of serial killer.... Its too short and highly predictable... Its like a child's chor police game... Murderer escapes, kills cop's wife and finally caught... Nothing new... Ignore

Anukshanam is Crime Thriller Movie
sekharkumarranji26 July 2017
Vishnu Manchu as the clean-shaven cop Gautam plays his part well. His six-foot frame and body language suit the character perfectly. Of course, at places his diction is a bit mumbled, but barring that he suits the part. Another important character in the film is played by Revathi. The aging actress plays her role with complete ease and seems to be least bothered appearing without any make-up at all. For her, playing the character of a visiting psychiatrist from the US who joins Gautam to help him trace the serial killer is a cake walk and she plays it as realistically as possible. But the real catch of the film is Surya who plays the serial killer Seetharam. He is neither slick nor sophisticated, but his rugged looks and his otherwise dumb expressions totally go with the psycho taxi driver character that he plays. Barringhis huge frame, his expressionless face can be easily lost in a crowd and that works for him. Apart from them, the film has an ensemble cast including Madhu Shalini, Brahmanandam, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Tejaswi. All of them put in okay performances, though Madhu Shalini could have toned down her histrionics.

Anukshanam - Vishnu Manchu's Best Performance I've ever seen
chandusekhar-6137017 November 2017
Anukshanam has brilliant production values and superb background score is the main highlight in the technical front. It helps the director to heighten the intensity of many scary scenes. The cinematography is excellent and it is another big highlight. Other technical departments have also delivered commendable jobs.

Anukshanam is a good psycho thriller movie that has ever been made in Tollywood. It is a grand treat for the lovers of crime thrillers. It is one of the best directorial ventures of Ram Gopal Varma. Vishnu is sure to rock the viewers.

Anukshanam Movie - Suspense Thriller Movie
andreewatchison2 August 2017
It's a simple tale of grandfather (Dasari) and grandson Rajesh (Vishnu Manchu) focusing on human emotions, bonding between Thata-Manavadu. While Rajesh, a software engineer aspiring to go to US, he decided to spend 3 months with his doting grandfather in the city. In between Rajesh falls for a girl Raji (Catherine) and so Raji. As grandfather arrives to his place, then Rajesh's life takes several dramatic turns and troubled waters start in his life, including his love life, because of his grandpa's village habitat. How did Rajesh handle the turn of events and how did his grandpa cope with it form the crux of the story. Technically, Chakri's music stands out. The cinematography and editing are good. The story line is excellent and Dasari Naryayana and Vishnu are done excellent performance in the film.

Anukshanam - crime thriller movie
adalbertoabel-2138419 September 2017
"After the huge success of Rowdy, the combo of director Ram Gopal Varma and actor-cum-producer Vishnu Manchu is back with another crime thriller titled Anukshanam. Before its release, the movie has created lot of buzz in the media for two reasons i.e. its unique content and the novel distribution technology introduced to Tollywood by the makers of the movie.

As it is mentioned above, Anukshanam is a crime thriller and Vishnu Manchu's electrifying performance is the main highlight of the film. Ram Gopal Varma's novel concept and arresting screenplay, brilliant background score and amazing camera work are other attractions of the movie.

As usual, Ram Gopal Varma has chosen a wonderful subject for Anukshanam that has never been seen in Telugu films in the past. He is also successful creating a brilliant screenplay for it. The film has a very fast-paced narration that makes the viewers sit on the edge of the seats and watch it biting their nails. Vishnu Manchu, who is known for his action comedy movies, has essayed never-played-before role in Anukshanam and he has delivered a brilliant performance, which is the biggest asset of the film. Revathi, Navdeep, Tejaswi Madivada, Madhu Shalini and Brahmanandam have played important roles in the film and they have done justice to their roles. Their performances are also among the big assets of the film. "

Anukshanam - Top Notch Production values
prakeshraj17 November 2017
The first half of the film is simple and good. The film has a interesting concept that could bring you to the edge of your seats and there are some nail biting scenes and the director has maintained the film's flavor fresh and it appeals to everyone. While watching the film, you could relate it to yourself and feel the thrill. This psycho thriller films are very rare in Telugu and the attempt by RGV and Vishnu is appreciable. This is one different film and it will definitely entertain you.

Anukshanam - Action and Suspense Thriller Movie.
alexanderault-9954415 September 2017
Anukshanam is an experiment with a heavy risk of investment. RGV and Machu Vishnu both had done a big experiment indeed. The story is simple but the narration is quite tight and thought provoking. The director succeeded in maintaining the suspense till the end.Surya acted as a psycho and by virtue of his natural histrionics, he had given a very good body language to the mental disposition of psycho. Revati has acted as the researcher. Madhushalini acted as media reporter. Both of them had done excellent job. Kota, Supreet, and Sravan had done their assigned roles perfectly. Navdeep, Tejaswini, and Sana give guest appearances here and there in a few scenes. Cinematography is superb. It has added to the thriller genre perfectly well. There is a wonderful connectivity between audiences and the narration on the screen. Music is also befitting the crime thriller. We opine that this is the best film among RGV's recent ones. The film is ideally good for those who are used to enjoy thrillers.

This should be remade in Hindi by RGV
alteracc3417 April 2020
Brilliant film by Ramu which shows that he still has those skills and class as director he had in 80s & 90s, abeit he has to work with better actors. Movie is about this women hating serial killer which the lead actor has brilliantly portayed. Supporting cast is also good. Bit of tweeking and you'll have great remake if Ramu makes this one in Hindi. 8.5/10

Anukshanam - Received good Reviews from Critics
jeremeaaron12 August 2017
"Goutam (Vishnu Manchu) is a sincere police officer who stays with his loving-wife Satya (Tejaswi). Everything goes well for him till he confronts a trouble in form of Seetharam (Surya), a cab driver-turned- serial killer who brutally murders beautiful girls in Hyderabad for pleasure. And now, Goutam launches a manhunt for Seetharam. In the mission, he is assisted by Sailaja (Revathi) who mastered in the behavioral sciences and has a knack over the psyche of Killer. Vishnu Manchu's ""Anukshanam"" has received good reviews from critics. Vishnu delivers a decent performance showing the right emotion in the entire film. "

'Anukshanam' Movie is a sure shot edge of the seat entertainer.
kristopherjane22 August 2017
The depth of research RGV and his squad conducts on these kinds of odd subjects serves as a lesson for budding directors to learn. Despite a fact that, serial killers are alien for our formula cinema loving audience yet it is the sincerity in attempt one should be pleased with. Without wasting an iota of time, RGV getting into the story from very starting frame resulted in a crisp appreciable run time. Unlike the old charm in RGV movies, screenplay of 'Anukshanam' is feeble with kindergarten dialogue writing depreciating the final essence of a serial killer concept. If at all dialogues would have been better, 'Anukshanam' is a sure shot edge of the seat entertainer. Technical team has done a good work using flow-cam technology where in cinematography, editing and background have aroused and sustained the interest of patrons. Production values of AV are good.

Anukshanam is a good attempt at creating suspense – thriller Movie
davidrajsekhar7 September 2017
Anukshanam is a good attempt at creating suspense – thriller Story begins with introduction to a taxi driver Sitaram (Surya) who is on a killing spree. Yes, he is our serial killer with different motive and fascination. As count and cruelty of murders targeted at a particular sex, age group and timing shakes the city, Goutham (Manchu Vishnu) is roped in to solve this mystery. The strict police officer along with his team (Supreet, Shravan etc) begins to trace for clues but fails to even find a hair of Sitaram. Then enters a US returned Behavioral Science Professor Shailaja (Revathi) to help the police team. While Home Minister (Kota) and media (Madhu Shalini) embark with huge criticism against the police failure and Hyderabad begins to shiver with ever increasing victims, a small clue takes them close to Sitaram. However, they miss the chance while Shailaja begins to study so deep into Sitaram's childhood and family.

'Anukshanam' is not a regular commercial cinema. It has a hard hitting subject with commanding performances from Vishnu, Surya. In conclusion, 'Anukshanam' is a far better film than RGV's past record. Bloodshed, barbarism, cruelty and severity are showed in RGV's Psycho Angle. Recommended for gutsy and gallant audience!

Anukshanam - Manchu Vishnu done Excellent performance in the movie
janevalturie18 August 2017
"Maverick RGV is always a good seller for good reasons linked to his technical skills and ability to market a film. Performance wise, Manchu Vishnu is carving a new image of own by selecting this kind of films. Being producer and hero here, Vishnu is acknowledged with advantages of experimenting on this subject. The level of maturity Vishnu attained as an artist was consciously visible in one episode of Police Station when Navdeep, Revathi, Supreet are sitting besides and Vishnu receives a shocking parcel from bloodthirsty killer. The frustration, self possession, confusion and complexion in character are dealt with equilibrium. If Revathi's role was meant to impart knowledge on psycho killings, Madhu Shalini was over (re)acting. Psycho character done by Surya was simple, grabbing the attention. Kota was regular; Brahmanandam irritating and Supreet, Shravan got a tragic end. "
