Stupid Garbage
divinitycycle18 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
In the film Saw, which "inspired" this, if people don't go along with a serial killer's horrifying. Coercive "games", then they die. That's sort of the whole deal with that franchise.

Imagine my surprise when, in this film, NO ONE EVER DIES. There are basically no dramatic stakes, because "the Reconciler" is just this dude who kidnaps people to force them to work out their differences because that's what all powerful God has his angels doing, apparently.

Deeply terrible and stupid film that doesn't ever seem to look negatively on KIDNAPPING PEOPLE. According to this film, federal crimes are cool with God as long as he told you to do it.

As bad as amateur Christian filmmaking gets, like "2025: The World Enslaved by a Virus" level garbage.

Avoid this one like the a plague of locusts.

Why??

Warning: Spoilers
First things first, I only really watched it for the meme, but even then it wasn't worth it. It's like someone watched Saw and then thought "What if Saw but, like, stupid? And with an angel instead of a serial killer? And, like, with a god who has no problem letting people die if they don't do what he says?" I guess they're back to pushing the "Fear god" angle again...oh yeah, spoiler alert: The Reconciler is apparently Jesus or something.

Seriously, why was the 'reporter' out doing all the interviews only to have that little side story lead absolutely nowhere? Seriously, there was never even any indication that any story was ever going to be written for any newspaper...and how were the soldier and his son ever in any real danger? Like, all they had to do was get to the top of the steps and unlock the handcuffs, yet the 'angel' claimed to have been there to get them out? Don't even get me started on the cops...like, why was it such a big deal that one of them wanted a transfer? Why was Jesus or whoever so bent out of shape about that? It's almost like the cop who wanted the transfer isn't allowed to do what they want...

Oh, and I think there was some song or other in there somewhere, because I heard part of one at one point, but I skipped through a bunch of parts where it was obvious nobody was saying anything. I should have skipped the whole bloody movie.

When you don't want to play a game...
Mr7Reality16 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This somehow is a Christian rip off of a horror series so let's point out why that's the case. Spoilers for the Saw movies AKA the better movies so I'll attempt to keep those to a minimum.

Two people with seemingly no connection but with one that is eventually revealed in the story. They are kidnapped against their will and stuck inside a locked room. The person who kidnapped them is an established serial kidnapper and forces them to play by their rules. All the obvious religious iconography is in it and that's where all the similarities end.

So in the Saw movies the serial killer known as Jigsaw kidnaps people and puts them into life threatening situations in an effort to make them appreciate their lives, teaching them a lesson, getting revenge, or killing because of ego, convenience or just because with arbitrary reasons. Even when Jigsaw is teaching life lessons it's still treated as part of a Messiah complex with a jaded and flawed philosophy. Now imagine being a Christian movie which says that Jigsaw did nothing wrong.

Rather drugging people to kidnap them against their will to make them appreciate the people in their lives is an act of God. A kindness to bestow upon mankind. The work of angels up on high... Honestly that is the funniest thing about this movie. It claims itself to be a thriller, a horror movie even but it doesn't even work like that because there is no horror to it because there's no stakes because the story doesn't amount to anything. People are human. They drift apart, argue, not get along, say or do things they regret to people they know or care about and before they know it the time can run out and they'll never have a chance again.

Abysmal movie, nonexistent horror movie, catastrophic Christian movie. The reviews are better than the actual movie.

The Reconciler
hausrathman10 December 2015
Two people wake up to find themselves locked in an abandoned warehouse with no memory of how they got there. They are prisoners, but why? That premise sounds like something you would expect in a horror movie like "Saw," not a faith-based drama, but that's precisely the story here. In "The Reconciler," an unseen puppet master who traps people and forces them to reconcile their differences. Or die.

I am a fan of faith-based films, but I must admit that I grow tired of the steady diet of "pastors- with-a-crisis-of-faith" dramas. I want faith-based films to embrace all genres and tackle all sorts of subjects. Therefore, I applaud the filmmakers for taking a chance on a film that the more stodgy members of the audience might reject. I hope they don't. This film, directed with panache by Shawn Justice, and featuring some nice performances, particularly by the Steel twins, is well-worth a look.
