She is suspicious of Nancy and the supposed architect Gerrard, actually Nancy's brother Gus, who reacts badly when Nancy admits that she loves Harry and will go through with the marriage. After the success of Britain At Play Harry proposes a mammoth sale with prices slashed but rival store owners are appalled and organize protests. Harry is the object of bad publicity however as other retailers are upset at what they view as Selfridge's overly aggressive sales tactics. It gives Loxley yet another issue with which he can undermine Harry and he calls an emergency meeting of the board. Gordon continues to pursue Grace but she resists, convinced there is no future for them. George Towler is rehired by the store as the head of security. Princess Marie's family jewels arrive, hidden in a crate of old clothes. She offers to repay everything she owes Harry but he refuses to accept anything. Nancy Webb decides she wants to go ahead with her marriage to Harry but her brother Gus isn't happy. A chance encounter causes Princess Marie to suspect that Gus isn't who he claims to be.
