The girl uses an earring to pick a lock. Locks cannot be opened using just one tool- two are needed, one to pick the cylinder and the other to turn it.
One of the sacks they brought in for dinner with Grandpa said PFK instead of KFC(PFK is what's on the french side of a KFC box. Or in Quebec, they all say PFK. As this is a Canadian film, it is not an error to display the PFK.).
While Grandpa's stories are initially considered to be fantasies by his grandson, his reference to Colonel Sanders being a participant and being "Private" Sanders during the Bay of Pigs invasion would be unbelievable simply due to Sander's age, even if the story later turns out to be true. Harlan Sanders was born in September of 1890 and would have thus been 70 years old when the Cuban invasion occurred in April of 1961.
In the repair shop garage, Grandpa picks up a large chrome-plated semi-automatic pistol that has been laying on the desk. He holds it in his right hand and cradles the pistol with his left hand. When he does, his left thumb is up along the middle of the slide as he is pointing it at the man behind the desk. Someone trained in firearms would never do this as the slide drives back and forth forcefully while ejecting the empty case and loading the new cartridge. As a result of this, severe damage, including the loss of a finger, could occur to one's left hand if the trigger was pulled in this configuration and the above sequence occurred.
The comment about the slide injuring the shooter is simply wrong. A large automatic pistol of the size used has a long, smooth-sided slide. Grandpa's thumb would merely feel the slide move back and forth, and no injury would occur.
