Prior to today’s Oscar nomination announcements, Joshua Oppenheimer‘s follow up/ companion film to the haunting The Act of Killing won the top prizes at the 2015 Cinema Eye Honors. The Look of Silence claimed the Outstanding Achievement in Nonfiction Feature, Outstanding Achievement in Direction for Joshua Oppenheimer and Outstanding Achievement in Production for the film’s producer Signe Byrge Sorensen. Jimmy Chin and Chai Vasarhelyi’s Sundance preemed docu landed a pair of wins. Here is the list of worthy winners per category.

Top brass have announced 60 films culled from 8,061 submissions across four categories – Us and international narrative, documentary and animation.
“This year’s short film-makers have broken through their limited timeframe with a high level of artistry and story that will resonate with audiences long after each film has ended,” said senior programmer Mike Plante.
The Short Film programme is presented by YouTube.
Sundance 2015 is set to run in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah, from January 22 to February 1.

The International Documentary Association (Ida) announced nominations for the 2014 Ida Documentary Awards today, with awards being bestowed December 5th at the Paramount Theatre on the studio lot. The top films nominated in the best feature category include the critically-acclaimed Citizenfour from filmmaker Laura Poitras about Edward Snowden and the state of surveillance of civilians post 9/11 which has been enjoying a theatrical run and Nick Broomfield’s Tales Of The Grim Sleeper about the serial killer who terrorized South Central Los Angeles over 25 years. In the limited series category is Playtone’s CNN doc The Sixties, among others. Best episodic include Oprah Winfrey’s Master Class and HBO’s Vice exec produced by Bill Maher (and others). In addition, Robert Redford will receive the Career Achievement award from the Ida.
