- Nine months after his wife's death Harry returns to work, having opened more stores, for the wedding of daughter Rosalie to aviator Serge De Bolotoff, son of the formidable Russian princess Marie. Among the guests are Agnes and Henri, who will themselves marry before long, and Kitty and Frank Edwards, who have her annoying sister Connie as their lodger. Still smarting from Mae's divorce, Loxley plans revenge on Harry and sees his chance when he learns that Harry is partly financing an aerodrome for Serge's planned airline. Loxley leaks the news, bringing Harry into conflict with philanthropist Nancy Webb, who wants the land to build affordable homes for war veterans. - The war is now over and much has changed for Harry Selfridge. His beloved Rose died during the Spanish flu epidemic and Harry still feels the loss deeply. Rosalie is about to marry a young Russian nobleman, Sergei de Bolotoff, though his overbearing mother, Princess Marie, is a presence in any circumstance. Sergei is an avid aviator and wants Harry to back him in establishing a new commercial air service. Harry meets a young developer, Nancy Webb, who is looking to build low cost housing for returning soldiers. At the store, there is some tension on the loading docks as the men return from service to find that women are working there. Kitty and Frank Edwards are now married; Mr. Grove has returned safely and resumed his duties; Agnes Towler is thrilled at Henri Leclerc's safe return, though he may not be in the best of health; and Miss Mardle is coming to end of her leave of absence from the store and must decide on her future. Victor Colleano has opened a modern nightclub but faces problems with a bent policeman. Also back in London after a four year absence is Lord Loxley, who is determined to get his revenge on Harry.—garykmcd
