A joy to watch
nnNickOoo11 May 2015
Went with the kids (7&10) to this stylish screen adaption of Marjon Hoffman's novel and it really did inspire our children's fantasies. Our oldest was familiar with the book but she was very pleased that the movie contained new and different elements to show Rikkie's transformation.

Although this movie revolves around serious subjects like honesty and bullying it never felt too heavy to me. Our youngest did found it a bit scary at times but that only added juice to his imagination.

The story borrows some classic situations from (crime) movies and mixes them with stop hammer time... ... ... recognizable events which were a joy to watch both for our children and me as parent.

Like a movie

The movie begins with a what if scenario. A really funny one and it sets the tone really well. The fun really keeps going all the way through. There are moments where the movie seems to kind of stop and it doesn't really feel right what happens. But apart from the fact that the movie tries to keep it as real as possible, there is still a big fantasy part to it all.

Which brings us to the point of the message. Pretty sure some will think it's a wrong one to glorify things, but that would be seeing this the wrong way. It's supposed to be fun and just entertain, not give you a wrong life advice. To be honest, I do think the movie is pretty good at pointing out the wrongness in being criminal. Again, just watch this and be entertained
