Factual errors

In contrast to what Skip Sprang says, the electronic IBM Selectric II typewriter was not launched in 1979 but in 1971, and the correcting version came out in 1973. By 1979, the Selectric II was already about to be replaced with its successor, the Selectric III.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

Luverne, Minnesota is approximately 250 miles from Fargo, North Dakota, a four-hour trip each way. However, Judge Mundt was not commuting but was driving through Minnesota for another reason.

Miscellaneous

Karl name drops John McCain as a survivor of torture. But in 1979, when the season is set, McCain was still a Navy officer and Congressional liaison and had not yet become famous. He would not be elected to office, and begin to build a national reputation, until 1982.

Karl was a history buff and a conspiracy theorist. He knew of McCain's story before he became famous because it was published in U.S. News & World Report on in May 14, 1973.
When Rye Gerhardt is talking to his brother Dodd, Rye says "That's like Jupiter telling Pluto, 'Hey, you're a planet , too'" but Pluto was not declassified as a planet until 2006.

What does "declassified" have to do with anything? That Jupiter is much larger than Pluto has been known since Pluto was discovered in 1930.
Lou Solverson (Patrick Wilson) has piercing blue eyes. The older Lou Solverson (Keith Carradine) has brown eyes.

Eyes can change color.
Peggy suggests running off to California. A postcard shown taped to her mirror is from "Hollywood Beach," but Hollywood is not near a beach in California. There is, however, a Hollywood Beach in Florida.

Anachronisms

The style of 5lb Amerex extinguisher seen hanging near the entrance of the cafe was not designed and developed until the earlier 1990's.

Character error

In January 2006, Molly says that she is 31, but in March of 1979 her mother mentions she is six years old. Depending on when her birthday is, and based on her age in season one, she is 1-2 years older in season two than she should be.
