Sad and strange

Warning: Spoilers
This film is too short to really say a lot, but it hinted at much more than what it tried to say in 13 minutes.

It's been very hard to find a short LGBTQ film with substance. This one has some.

Basically an older man who has broken up with his husband of 30 years decides to go out for a night. He's the oldest person in a club filled with pretty young things, straight and gay. He meets one young gay man. They share a bit of history, a drink, a kiss, a dance... but then the young man sees someone else he knows, another handsome young man, and the two of them go off to kiss.

This enrages the older man, who has spent money on countless drinks, which apparently makes him feel he is entitled to a night with the young man. He screams at the young man and his companion in an over-the-top moment and of course, he loses any chance of ever seeing the young man again.

But... there was a moment or two of tenderness between them. They were both vulnerable for a moment. That was powerful. And what I think is important to come away with is the fact that desire does not die. People get older, but the desire for love and sex and touching and intimacy... this does not disappear because one gets older.

I wish this could have gone on. I think there is actually a whole movie buried in this short and I don't think "Mr. Sugar Daddy" is at all the right title. But I applaud the director for creating a very close-up look at an older man who still longs for something that may be out of reach for him. It was a sad and strange little film.

a clash
Kirpianuscus27 May 2023
A clash of interests and perspectives, interests and attraction between two different ages. A venerable man, after the boke up with his husband , in a bar, looking for, inspired by an eccentric couple, a new chance in love.

A polite young man seems the perfect partner, for a night of intimancy , maybe.

But the things are not so easy or clear.

For the young man, nothing more than polite - kind attitude, inspired by the age of the other. And, with his friend, a cruel joke with the old man.

For the venerable man, all must be more than serious and the chain of drinks for conquer the young guy is a good proof. The 30 yeaars long marriage versus a month relation can be the key for the final of film.

Basic virtue, the profound realism of story. And, no doubts, the acting.
