I really don't understand the negative reviews.

Why all the hate? It is a quiet, understated movie. It might not win any awards but the acting is certainly and not as bad as some say- it is fair to midland. And the plot is not jolting, this is not an action movie or a rom-com. It is about a criminal who breaks into an old dying woman's home to escape his fellow crime buddies who want their loot and possibly to kill him. Add in the woman's health carer. And Jane Hayward does as fine a job as well as the younger actors. She is playing a somewhat bitter, grumpy, lonely, older lady who is in pain and dying.

lost opportunities
ops-5253522 July 2019
Its with mixed emotions i write this review, because this is a film that wasted a good poker hand of opportunities, that runs onshore due to lack of financial muscles . its about a man that burgles a private home only to be caught by the lady owner of the house, that offers this man loads of opportunities to repent his sins.

the acting are good at times, but takes a trip to the muddy pitch of newcastle that slows down the pace to the extent of boredom. it has a nice filmographic storytelling, that may mend some of the damage done by the screenplay.

its traditional english low budget thriller, not the very best, and just within the comfort zone of the grumpy old man.a tiny recommendation from me.

One day with Mrs. Potter would have been enough

The actress who played Mrs. Potter could give 'bad example' acting lessons. From her first lines I thought "Oh no, has this woman acted before?" Based on her IMDB profile, she had - many times to my surprise. The actors that played the young couple were much better, and I'm particularly surprised I haven't seen Ms. Tonge more. As for the story, it's not particularly original, and it gets pretty sappy at the end, where there is a comical display of over-acting and some extraordinarily trite dialog. Overall, it's not a film I'd recommend. Certainly not as good as its IMDB rating would indicate.

I Liked It!

I enjoyed this film. I loved the actors that played Mrs. Potter and "Ryan", as well as the characters they portrayed. I was not particularly keen on the young woman that was the singer. Her acting was fine, but I found her character to be very unlikable. She seemed irritatingly bossy and not feminine enough. Her character could have been omitted. I do think the film could have been better if they had fleshed out the characters of Mrs. Potter and Ryan a bit more, lengthened the film and taken more pains to show the depth of Mrs. Potter's & Ryan's affection for one another. When it ended, I felt like there was more to be seen. Overall, I enjoyed it very much.

Like watching a media studies project
elisapops5 November 2019
This story is quite well-written and the moral of the tale is sound, but the acting by lead Mrs Potter is really embarrassing to watch. She is thankfully propped up by the actually much better work of Ryan and Ellie until the closing scene where there is a very wooden exchange of forced humour.

Overall the casting is off and acting is amateur which gives the film an overall unpolished and unprofessional feel.

Can't recommend. It left me disappointed and a bit like you do at the end of a no-audition local theatre show; like you could have been doing something better with your life but you had to see it through to the end, because you have it a chance.

Just a Wonderful Film
rfieldj5 January 2021
I found this movie by accident while looking through Amazon streaming films and I figured I would give it a try. It turned out to be excellent. It was not self-indulgent in the least and it turned out to be exactly what it was supposed to be. A nice quiet film and character study. The writing was excellent, the performances were perfect, and I loved the setting.

Didn't care for it.
rdarlow-3926527 April 2022
I am sorry to say that I didn't care for it. Mrs Potter isn't a likeable character. She also looks a little too healthy for someone with end stage cancer. The ending wasn't at all satisfying. It's a fine movie to put on while you're cleaning the house and too distracted to pay attention. I gave it 4 stars for the scenery and the singing.

Ryan is invited to stay with Mrs. Potter
sjanders-8643027 December 2020
Mrs. Potter doesn't want to die alone and invites Ryan to stay and help her. A thug is looking for Ryan who has a 10 million dollar diamond. Mrs. Potter saves the day and Ryan. Ellie and Ryan share a cup of tea. This is a Norton Brothers Production. Christopher Norton directed. Excellent film all around. I especially like the Twelth Night readings.
