The revenge of a wife and mother
Misss256 May 2021
This is a pretty good revenge thriller. But,somehow it resembles ''the seven pound'' donating all organs and The silence of lambs'' Buffalo Bill concept. This movie is not completely taken from the movies but I guess, the director tried to combine both movies attention grabbing points and presented it in a bit different way. However,I loved concept of the woman revenge over psycho serial killer who killed her whole family. Though she becomes cripple after the incident, therefore, she manages four people who are in need of organ for their dearest ones and hire them to work for her in exchange of her organs. She along with four other finally accomplished the mission to killing the serial killer. Later she does the thing, she promised to do and everyone started living happily except she is dead now. But this doesn't matter, she got what she was longing for long A REVENGE.

For all the fun loving crime fans !!!!

Warning: Spoilers
This Movie is good just alone for its story plot .Eun-ah being the main protaganist of the story, had a revenge plotted against Jae-wook the serial killer who murders people just to turn them into a doll in his words its more like a "Let me Purify You" and collects all their personal things as souvenir. The Story thickens when the rest of the four characters are introduced. Sacrificing herself just to save the other 4 lives is a huge decision but since there isn't anyone in eun-ah life there isn't any other way to complete her mission. AS ALWAYS REVENGE IS ALWAYS NOT THE CORRECT WAY. I would give it a solid 6.5

A slightly draggy formula revenge thriller
phd_travel15 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This revenge thriller features some familiar faces like Ma Dong Seok. It's not tightly directed enough. The tension doesn't keep up throughout. The premise is fairly involving. The serial killer quite creepily played by On Joo Wan. He kills the husband and daughter of a woman and paralyzes her. Later she tracks them down and gets help to capture him by offering to donate her rare blood type organs to people who need them for their loved ones. Her plan doesn't seem that great as some are captured and killed quite easily. It feels slightly predictable but you still want to see how things end.

The Five

Warning: Spoilers
Eun-A has a loving family, she's creative and happy go lucky. Unfortunately, she and her daughter cross path with serial killer who tracks them down and kills her husband and daughter. Severely beaten and left for dead Eun-A miraculously survives this savage attack, and now the only thing that keeps her going - mentally and physically damaged - is a dream of revenge.

But, handicapped and weak she can't pull this off by herself, so she decides to gather a group of outcasts, each one with a specific skill to find the killer, each of them having one thing in common: members of their family (daughter, mother, wife) are on organ transplant waiting list. She gives them the proposal they can't pass on.

At first none of those people trust one another, but having heard Eun- A's story they finally break, and agree to help her. And so, five ordinary people, heavily burdened by their personal problems and tragedies team up to catch sleazy, skillful and psychopathic murderer. In the edge-of-the seat cat and mouse game which will keep you emotionally engaged while rooting for this bunch.

Hard to believe this is Jung Yeon-Sik's first feature, it's directed with skill and confidence, production is top, as expected for revenge thriller, genre that surpasses other Korean cinema output in production values and popularity overseas.

As per usual, we have the full package here, film contains action, comedy (provided once again by lazy and incompetent law enforcement officers), lots of violence, drama, mystery. Lovely Kim Sun-A (Eun-A) is the star of this film as tragic heroine but the whole cast did a convincing job, especially robust and likable Ma Dong-Seok (Azooma, The Flu). I have to give props to our antagonist, chilling, cold, demented, teen idol type, On Joo-Wan as Jae-Wook, pretty boy killer, a rising star artist. With a dark secret and specific "artistic" vision that cost people their lives. And Park Hyo-Joo (Hye-Jin) good Samaritan, Eun-A's tragic friend and sidekick, comedic relief with small, but touching role.

Excellent, engaging film, real emotional roller coaster, highly recommended.

a one-time movie

Warning: Spoilers
The plot itself is simple and partly bonalen, but it has its own little twist, which is that a girl in a wheelchair becomes the victim, or rather the avenger.

Hence, this film has perhaps one idea, which is that even a physically weak person with the presence of mind and thinking is able to take revenge and at the same time using a minimum of physical strength for revenge! There would be a desire, and in our case a thirst for revenge for a once-lost happy life.

Well, what will be the final and what is the plan of revenge, you will see for yourself if you want. As for me, the plan is very interesting and specific and was created by the main character taking into account her physical capabilities!

Suspenseful, gripping, emotional. Spoilers! Read after watching!

Warning: Spoilers
I don't understand the low review...I thought this was an excellent movie. Some clever plot twists as is the usual with a lot of Korean films in this genre. I was expecting another twist at the end which didn't happen but would have been interesting. (It would have been interesting if they decided to use the killer's organs instead...but I guess that's me overthinking things!) I also wanted to see what happened to 'glass eyes' organ transplant recipient... Plus...a more drawn out punishment for the killer would have been more satisfying!

Solid Thriller
Foutainoflife28 September 2018
Woman loses her daughter and husband to a serial killer. She teams up with an unlikely group in an attempt to exact her revenge and in return offer them each something they can not find without her.

This was a solid thriller. It had a lot of emotion tied into it and while some of it was rather unlikely, it was nonetheless a good story. I am someone who happens to think that Dong-seok Ma is an excellent actor. He was also in Train to Busan and I've seen it written that he is the South Korean version of Dwanye "The Rock" Johnson. I look forward to seeing him in more of the South Korean movies I plan to watch.

Check this out.

Great movie
fldken23 December 2023
I like the idea and directing. This thriller movie holds a special place in my movie memories. I watched it in 2014 in Korea, and watching it again brings back so many memories. The director nailed it with a captivating storyline and solid execution. Just a heads-up, though - it can get a bit intense and gritty. But, that's part of what makes it stick in your mind. The blend of suspense and visceral moments contributes to its overall impact, leaving a lasting impression that resonates with the audience's memories of that particular era in Korean cinema. I also love the actors and actresses,, ;) I'm a huge fan of Ma dong seok.
