Goofs

The Yellow Birds

Edit

Continuity

When Bartle pushes his mother against the wall in his bedroom, he holds her with his left hand. When the camera angle changes and he lets get go to leave the room, he is using his right hand.

Factual errors

This war is shown to be in Iraq, but all the Arab characters were clearly talking with the Moroccan dialect which is significantly different from the Iraqi dialect.

Revealing mistakes

During the roof top firefight, the Machine-Gunner's ammo belt can be seen loaded with blanks.

Errors in geography

At 1:23 the scene shows a wide shot of the river's flow. If you watch the smoke in the distance its obvious that the footage is running backwards.

Character error

Bartle and Murphy address non-commissioned officers as "sir" numerous times throughout the film. NCOs are referred to by their rank (sergeant, staff sergeant) in the US Army, Only commissioned officers are referred to or addressed as "sir" (warrant officers can be addressed as"Mr (their last name)" or as "sir" . This is a serious error in protocol and would have been corrected by the NCO being addressed immediately.
