I use this documentary in my classroom at the end of our unit that is focused on Columbus, Spanish Colonization, Bartolome De Las Casas, and the Taino Indigenous people. It give the students an opportunity to make meaningful connections to the past, present, and future. It also provides a thoughtful and respectful look at the people of Cuba and the impact of colonization on the Caribbean Islands. It is brief, entertaining, informative, and appropriate for middle schoolers. The film makers obviously care a lot about the subject matter and work hard to be respectful and do the Taino the justice they deserve. I would recommend this film.
