Vestel is a Turkish white goods manufacturer, according to the online resources that I had to turn to in order to try and work out what I had just watched. This very short film sees Somali pirates boarding a ship only to find themselves with a rather unusual cargo they did not expect.
Essentially it is an advert for Vestel since the "white goods" in this case are robots who quickly and humorously make quick work of the pirates' ambitions to be the new owners of the ship. As a rapid throwaway advert it is okay but for what it tries there was scope for more. It isn't as smart as it thinks it is and the humour is pretty broad. The visual effects are pretty impressive but then in other ways the short is not particularly impressive. The dialogue is hard to catch due to the music, while the delivery of the ship takeover is a bit too lacking in edge, as indeed is the whole short film. The robots look good but the gentle humour is a bit too gentle.
Ultimately it is just a throwaway advert despite all the work that went into making it, so one shouldn't come to it expecting a great deal, however it is hard not to look at the scale of the making and not feel like it could have been smarter, funnier and more memorable as an advert.
