Sam Waterston and Olivia Munn in The Newsroom (2012)

Goofs

Contempt

The Newsroom

Edit

Factual errors

Will was held in contempt by a federal judge and would have been held in a federal facility. He would not have been held in a place that holds those accused of speeding and domestic battery.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

The HR guy Wyatt Geary asks Don Keefer to accept his friend request on Instagram. Technically, Instagram does not have friend requests, only follows.

Miscellaneous

They key signature of "Ave Maria" shown at Julliard has two sharps, indicating it's in the key of D major. The song is being performed in the key of E major.

Anachronisms

Outside the Bryant Park Hotel, there's an bus shelter ad for the movie Lucy, which wasn't released until 25 July 2014. The episode purportedly takes place in April 2013.

Audio/visual unsynchronised

The montage features an arrangement of the "Ave Maria", which was set to music written by German composer Franz Schubert in 1825. The scene also shows a pianist reading from sheet music with the title "Ave Maria" at the top of the page. However, the notes on the page reveal that the sheet music is for the 1853 setting of the "Ave Maria" by French composer Charles Gounod. The pianist is reading a completely different "Ave Maria" from the one used in the soundtrack.

Errors in geography

The subpoena Will receives to testify before a grand jury summons him to appear at "One Street Andrews Plaza" when it should be "One Saint Andrews Plaza". Also, the subpoena bears the seal of the U.S. Attorney's Office - Eastern District of New York, but the U.S. Attorney's Office at One Saint Andrews Plaza is that of the Southern District of New York. Lastly, the time of he is ordered to appear is given as 10:00 AM PST, which is odd given that New York is of course on Eastern Standard Time.
When Hallie and Jim spar over her "writing more personally", Jim is making a sandwich. He is using Oroweat 100% Whole Wheat bread. Oroweat is sold in the western United States. In the eastern US, say New York City, the same branding and packaging is used with the Arnold brand name.
