Paul McGillion and Jenn MacLean-Angus in Reluctant Witness (2015)

Goofs

Reluctant Witness

Edit

Continuity

Rolands was stabbed multiple times yet when Erin first finds his body there is no blood on or around it. After the camera angle changes, there is a large stain on his shirt. The stain subsequently appears and disappears depending upon the camera angle.

Factual errors

Many errors are made regarding the witness protection program and law enforcement. Local agencies do not use it, yet the Chicago case was shown to be local, referencing a "DA" or District Attorney. That is also an error as Illinois utilizes State's Attorneys as prosecutors. The detective/"agent" involved does not wear an FBI or even a Chicago PD badge, instead having one similar to the LAPD or a city police agency. A person in the federal witness protection program would deal with Deputy US Marshals, not local police.

Revealing mistakes

After finding Rolands' body and before going into her purse, his dead body is seen breathing: his shirt moves as he inhales.

Crew or equipment visible

With about 14 minutes left as Erin is opening the door for Katrin, a crew member is visible in the glass panel of the door.

Errors in geography

When Warren parks in front of some stores, a sign on one has the phone number with area code 604. That area code is for British Columbia Canada where the movie was filmed. It is supposedly set in rural California.

Plot holes

An FBI agent that had worked the amount of time Rolands had would have retirement benefits far exceeding $250,000. To take that amount as a payoff and expose himself as corrupt and then disappear would mean a huge loss in income over time.
Delgado is at the winery looking for Warren. She walks past the open front of a building and does not see Warren standing there. As she walks past him, he steps behind her and knocks her out.
Even in 2005 DNA testing was sufficient to establish an identity or in the case here exclude someone as being another person, yet the detective never mentions DNA testing for the unidentifiable body that was found. DNA was first used in a court in 1986. As such, the body found in 2005 could have been proved not to be Collins.

Character error

The prop driver license given to the detective by Warren has the name Warren Cooper on it, but it is signed Joseph TVDL. It says across the top of the license TVDL, which means Temporary Visitor Driver License, which is a license issued to non-visa aliens. This would be a dead giveaway that his ID was fraudulent, but the detective overlooks it.
Rolands tells Erin he would not know where she is once she was in the program, yet she calls him when she is in trouble.
Jimmie pays for expensive plastic surgery but not to have his distinctive tattoo removed.
Detective/Officer Delgado upon arrival says she saw the wounds on Rolands' back. First of all, she had not even looked at the body at that point as she had just arrived and the body had not been moved. Next, Rolands was not stabbed in the back. Warren stabbed him from the front.
The detective after meeting with Erin and listening to her recording of Jimmy/Warren says she does not have probable cause. In fact she had an abundance of probable cause to obtain at the very least a warrant for his DNA, which could then be compared to that of the body believed to be Jimmy, and ultimately to the DNA of the true Jimmy.
