- Sister Mary Cynthia returns to Nonnatus House, Barbara has trouble communicating with a pregnant Sylheti woman, Shelagh helps Patrick with his exhausting workload, and Trixie struggles to cope with her pain.
- Now a nun, Sister Mary Cynthia, Cynthia Miller returns to work as a midwife and finds that Sister Julienne has a problem with Janice and Ray Prendergast, who are Christian Scientists and refuse to give their sick baby Raymond medicine. When Raymond suffers a fractured leg Dr Turner suspects abuse and calls in the NSPCC. However he is over-worked and tired from relieving a colleague and he may be wrong. When he gives in to sickness and self-doubt Shelagh steps in to help. Barbara befriends Ameera, a pregnant woman from Sylhet region of Indian subcontinent with no English, whose little boy interprets for her and when Ameera falls ill Dr Turner regains his confidence to save her. Trixie, having broken off her engagement to Tom, says goodbye as he prepares to leave for Newcastle.—don @ minifie-1
- Barbara's latest patient doesn't speak English and it's left to her young son to act as translator. Cynthia, now Sister Mary Cynthia, returns to service and is welcomed by everyone. Trixie is avoiding Tom now that she's broken off their engagement. Sister Julienne and Dr. Turner meanwhile have a case of a newborn that they believe is being physically abused. The child has a broken arm though the patents cannot explain what's happened. When it's determined soon after that the baby now has a broken leg, Dr. Turner calls in the child welfare authorities. He soon realizes however that he's made a grievous error making him question his own abilities as a doctor.—garykmcd
