Season One Review

Produced in 2012 to capitalise on the first Avengers movie, "Avengers Assemble" is currently available on Disney Plus and, given I was trying to watch everything on it in alphabetical order I ended up starting this pretty early. It took quite a while to get through the first season, both because I was using it as a filler show and there are 26 episodes in this first run. Whilst there's nothing particularly strong to recommend about the show, I did get through it and will probably continue on.

Now an established team, based out of Avengers Tower, The Avengers; Iron Man (Adrian Pasdar), Captain America (Roger Craig Smith), Hulk (Fred Tatasciore), Thor (Travis Willingham), Hawkeye (Troy Baker), Black Widow (Laura Bailey) and Falcon (Bumper Robinson) protect the world from threats. They might have met there match though, when Red Skull steals both the Tesseract and a set of Iron Man's Armour and forms a cabal of various villains to go head to head with The Avengers.

Marvel animations produced quite a lot of shows based on their properties and I've got all these to look forward too. The work is not particularly stylised, but it's solid enough to tell the story in an effective and the action scenes are nicely done. Nobody is attempting to mirror the voices of their big screen equivalent, but the actual performances are good. Veteran voice actors like Troy Baker and Fred Tatasciore operate alongside a more recognisable actor in Adrian Pasdar, who has also been in "Agents of SHIELD" as well as his most high-profile role in "Heroes".

The stories are OK, mixing in individual episode long plots alongside the main season long arc of the Avengers against the Cabal. There are guest appearances from the X-Men villain Mojo, Galactus, Ant Man and The Guardians of the Galaxy.

Again, it's a kids Saturday morning cartoon really, so perhaps I, as an old man shouldn't really be judging something that's not really for me, but it was OK filler TV when I had a spare twenty minutes.
