In the premiere episode, Cassius gets told off yet somehow ends up with both Robin and Whitney in such a way that alludes the love triangle isn't over yet.

I finally had a Saturday, weeks ago, when I could just do nothing, and since I was caught up on the shows I watch which aren't reviewed here, I went looking for web series. Now, Black&Sexy TV already has RoomieLoverFreinds, which I love, so I thought since The Couple is coming to HBO, to check that out. It didn't click with me. So, I skipped over The Number, since seeing some dude insecure about how many people his girl had sex with sounded silly, and then decides to pick this show. So, let's talk about Hello Cupid's season 2 premiere, available here for $3.

Topic 1: Cassius' Secret

As I said when I decided to live tweet this episode, I am really getting tired of Black women being written into a relationship with a married man. Scandal, has it, Being Mary Jane has it, and it is becoming a trend I have 0 love for. Having a complicated relationship is one thing, but why the hell are you going to make it look like a Black woman can't get a quality single man? I mean, I love the fact more Black women are getting leading roles, but I find it slightly problematic that their love interest, on the programs in which they are starring, are married. Mind you, I realize this is a web series and they are held to a different standard since their backing is on a different playing field, but any image put out into the universe counts for something.

Topic 2: Meet the Wife

Leading me to talk about Cassius' wife. Now, though this isn't an excuse, when you look at Mellie on Scandal or Avery on Being Mary Jane you can understand why the husband is looking for someone different. Mellie is, for the most part, like a smart version of that high school cheerleader who always plays the villain, and outside of the "Everything's Coming Up Mellie" (TW: Rape) episode, it was hard to find reason to really sympathize with her. As for Avery, you could slightly feel bad for her because she did invest in Andre, but the way she makes it sound it is like she owns him and how dare her creation rebel! But, while you can see why their husbands would possibly seek separation, or divorce, the season 2 premiere didn't really explain why Cassius was sneaking around. His wife seemed sweet, was presented as his high school sweetheart, and seemingly wanted to work on their marriage. Meanwhile, Cassius seems like he is trying to relive his youth by trying to find a way to get Whitney and Robin at the same damn time. Which, by golly, they seemingly aren't as repulsed by as I am.

Topic 3: Get it together

When the episode starts, with Whitney finding out Cassius is married, it seems like she is ready to kick him to the curb, and Austin's stalker self too, and yet be it Robin's involvement, or old feelings which refuse to die, somehow they end up wanting an explanation for his lies and then want to meet in person. Then, once they meet in person, somehow this dude charms his way with some rinky-dink flowers and then they are playing around like some college kids in an open relationship. What makes this worse though is they keep bringing up the wife, and he admits he lied to his wife to see them, and they still are having fun like all the drama from when they met was just a bump in the road.

Leaving me sort of perplexed, though admittedly intrigued. However, I must say all the arguing between characters was taxing and I think if they released this like they did the other episode, those moments could have been cut and fit YouTube's usual time limits. Either way, for $3 it wasn't a waste of money.
