Synopsis

  • Back at the Department of Defense after being injured in a bombing, Delilah decrypts emails. She finds something and calls for her boss.

Two weeks ago a Naval Intelligence officer was killed in Budapest, but the case has gone cold. But Delilah found an email from a known alias telling the suspect to lie low at an address in DC. She's ready to alert everyone, but instead her boss deletes the email and tells her and her chatty coworker that they never saw the email.

At NCIS, McGee is ready to ask Delilah to move in with him. Tony is excited for him. Tony gets a call from Delilah, but she tells him not to tell McGee she's calling.

She asks about the progress on the murder of Navy Lt. Kit Jones, hoping there's a classified investigation she couldn't dig up. But Tony says there's nothing.

Delilah takes it to Gibbs and McGee. Jones was trying to take down a website that sells everything from drugs to hitmen. Delilah is bothered that her boss is clearly under orders not to act on the case. Gibbs says they'll look into it.

McGee goes to the apartment posing as pest control. The building owner, Ronald Troutman, says the tenant paid with cash but has moved out and the whole place was cleaned and smells like bleach. The name he used is fake. Troutman is a fit man in his 40s but walking with a cane, he says he has surgery on a bum knee tomorrow.

In the apartment, Tony and McGee don't find any blood. McGee sent a photo of a partial print to Abby. The mystery renter is Lt. Kit Jones, who died in Budapest two weeks ago.

Back at NCIS, it's time for the victim rundown -- in Vance's office this time. Jones was looking into the Phoenecian Exchange, an offshoot of the Silk Road. His hotel room was destroyed and there was no body left but he made a call from the room seconds before the bomb went off.

Heidi Partridge, the site's former operator, is currently in prison. Vance wonders if Jones faked his death to take over the multi-million dollar role. But he left behind a fiancée, Melody Partridge.

Gibbs meets with her. They were supposed to get married last week. She was able to cancel almost everything for the wedding, but not the reception catering from Leo's restaurant. She asks Gibbs to take the leftovers off her hands.

She says Kit did everything 100% and loved his job. He called her every day he was gone, except the day before he died.

Tony and McGee go to Dandridge to talk to Heidi, who is awaiting trial and won't reveal anything. She used to be a kindergarten teacher. She says she was hired to keep a website functioning on a purely code level, that was it. When they ask if Jones could have taken over the site, she ends the interview saying it's violating her new deal -- she struck it just before they arrived.

The prison log doesn't show any visitors. As they leave the prison, Tony checks in with Gibbs, but his phone cuts out. He has a full signal, so they look around for someone with a signal jammer and find a man in a car nearby. When they pull their guns on him, he says he's case officer Jim Brisco and they're interfering with a CIA operation.

Later, Brisco meets with Gibbs and Vance. Jones is alive and working for them. They staged the hotel explosion. Jones work overlapped with a CIA money laundering investigation into bitcoins. Gibbs wants to tell Melody, but Brisco says it would make her a target.

They had brought Melody back in, but Gibbs has to send her home. He apologizes on behalf of NCIS and the CIA, which he name drops to see if it means anything to her.

Gibbs wants a way into the site, so McGee turns to Delilah's informant and ex-boyfriend, Sampson. Tony and McGee stake out Sampson out. He's gigantic -- he uses the PX website to buy and sell steroids.

Vance meets with CIA Head of Intelligence Kirkwood Zaysen, annoyed at being left out of the loop. Kirkwood essentially tells Vance to butt out.

Back in interrogation, Sampson is happy to help until he learns they wants his Phoenician login. He doesn't want to risk anything they do tracing back to him, but he shows concern for Delilah and finally agrees to help in exchange for coffee with her --as promised to him by Tony.

McGee checks in on Delilah, who called in sick to work and is camped out in Abby's lab. McGee doesn't understand why she's risking her job and she points out the case involving a bomb and a website with ties to terrorism both hit home for her.

She's scanning PX and has already found classified DOD security protocols -- the kind of thing Jones would have access to. "He could be a double agent," Delilah says.

In the morgue, Abby ran the tissue Tony and McGee found in Jones' secret apartment and found signs of malnutrition and high doses of oxycodone. He's not a double agent -- he's a prisoner.

In MTAC, Gibbs, Vance and Brisco talk with Kirkwood with the CIA. He's angry to be learning from NCIS that Jones is being held captive. Brisco was in contact with him, but only via email. Kirkwood turns things over to NCIS.

Delilah, McGee and Abby comb through the code Jones has sprinkled throughout the dark part of the website (more tech speak here), and find (tech jargon) breadcrumbs he left, leading them to an IP address in use at a nearby hospital. A quick check of patients and staff against their files pulls up Ronald Troutman, the landlord having knee surgery.

They don't want to bust him, because that could leave Jones in harm's way. They plan undercover instead to get the proof from his computer.

In the hospital, Troutman is recovering from his knee surgery and is knocked out. Jimmy and Duckie go in to get rid of his college age daughter, Kim. McGee runs in and takes apart Troutman's laptop to swap the hard drives.

Back at NCIS, Tony goes through Melody's phone records to make sure she's not keeping anything from them, or in danger.

Delilah comes by Tony's desk wanting advice. She's interested in a senior analyst position in Dubai. Tony is about to ask more, when they see that Melody just got six one-second phone calls from Leo's, the restaurant where Kit proposed and their reception was supposed to be held.

Down in Abby's lab, she finds absolutely nothing on Troutman's laptop, it's been cleaned. He knew they were coming -- someone tipped him off.

Outside Leo's restaurant, Gibbs and Ellie run into Kit Jones. He pulls a gun on them, wary of any government agents. Tony easily sneaks up and disarms him. Kit explains the last federal agent who said he was going to help was Jim Brisco- and he was the one holding Kit prisoner.

Back in interrogation, Kit tells Tony he walked into Brisco's trap. There was never any undercover operation -- it was Brisco's ruse to make him think he was taking down the world's biggest undercover drug market. He says Brisco tortured him for information to give to PX. He escaped the day before they found the apartment.

Brisco has gone missing. Gibbs wants to take a run at Troutman.

At the hospital, Gibbs pokes Troutman's operated on knee to get him to talk. Troutman is happy to cooperate, as soon as they tell him how to hand over his passwords and login. He asks if they need his AOL info. Gibbs notices Troutman has a flip phone like him -- a fellow tech troglodyte. When Ellie mentions his laptop, he says he doesn't have one. When they point out the one in his room, he realizes it belongs to his daughter.

Meanwhile, Kim Troutman meets with Jim Brisco in a restaurant. They've never met before, but she gets him talking about tipping her off.

Then she leaves and checks in with Gibbs to make sure her plea deal is intact.

Jones sits down with Brisco to let him know the jig is up. Jones decks him for good measure.

McGee gives Kit a ride to meet Melody at the courthouse -- she's wearing a veil and saved the top of their wedding cake.

In the car, McGee tells Delilah she should go for the Dubai job if she wants it -- Tony told him about it. She will only do it if he's up for a long distance relationship. He gives her the keys to his apartment.
