This anime series follows Nanako Usami; a high school girl from the city of Nagarekawa who is asked by her uncle to be a 'locodol' or Local Idol. As such she becomes a member of the Nagarekawa Girls. Here she works alongside Yukari Kohinata, a slightly older girl from her school, and Yui Mikoze who acts as the groups mascot and is this seldom seen out of costume by the public. Nanako is somewhat shy and even stutters when announcing her name but this just makes her more endearing to those who go to see them perform. It is their job to perform at local events and to promote the city to a wider audience. Over the course of the series the group perform at a number of events and take part in a couple of competitions with locodols from other cities.

There are plenty of anime series centred on a group of school girls and several which follow idol groups so if you enjoy either of those genres you are likely to like this. It isn't a classic series but it is a lot of fun. The characters are fun in a cute way and unlike so many series there is no excessive fan service. There are plenty of laughs to be had along the way although thanks to the series gentle nature they tend to be chuckles rather than laugh out loud moments… it is the sort of show that it is hard not to smile while watching. Over the course of the series there is good character development and when the twelfth episode was over I was left wanting more… largely because another episode is advertised however I doubt it will be available in the west unless there is a DVD release as it was an OVA special for the Japanese release and these usually don't appear on legitimate streaming sites! Overall a fun series that is worth watching.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.
