Closure at last for Kate Beckett. Warning: Spoilers
Warning: Possible Spoilers on Joanna Beckett's murder case & Senator Bracken.

Wow! This was an immensely satisfying & badass end to Kate's mother's murder case..the case which has been key to Kate's successes & failures in equal measures.

  • Kate was possibly even more badass here than when she went undercover earlier this season. Faking being drugged and taking out those two thugs while being clubbed on the head with a bottle was just epic!

  • Finally...a sigh of relief and pride at Kate for finally taking down the person responsible for her mother's death. Immense gratitude to Rick too for standing by and supporting her despite the many dangers he was facing and Kate's stubbornness.

  • Now the duo can finally approach their wedding in peace...oops there is one more item on the list: 3XK! Hope he thinks this summer is too warm for complicated plans to terrorize the duo!

What we've all been waiting for!

Warning: Spoilers
Thank goodness that the Bracken storyline was wrapped up before the wedding! I was actually very satisfied with the way that Bracken was taken down, with Kate approaching him during an interview and exposing him for the monster that he is. The hug that she and Castle shared at the end was also very sweet.

However, there is one huge thing in this episode that keep me from giving it a 10/10. How is it that Kate seems to be getting off of her charges just because it was discovered that Bracken is a murderer? There was still all of that evidence against her for killing Vulcan Simmons, and no evidence to suggest that she was being framed. She just walked up to Bracken and arrested him and then stood outside with Castle like she had been cleared of all charges. I hope that in next week's finale they will at least make some mention of having some sort of evidence to clear Kate, because then that would be an enormous plot hole.

However, despite this, I still love the episode. 8/10

Could be better

Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER ALERT! Do not read this if you have not already seen the show!

I loved watching how they slowly solve Kate's mum case, but the tape twist is a little forced. They thoroughly investigated the case yet Kate never remembered what Roy told her the first time she met him? She had that thing on her office each day and never thought there could be something inside? And how did Smith learned about the existence of that recording after all? When was Kate cleared of all murder charges? I would have believed it better if they learned the tape was on some safe in a bank that was closed years before and Castle had to retrace it all alone, as Kate was under arrest for murder or if actual evidence she did not kill the dealer had appeared before arresting the senator. The case could had been solved much nicer than this! Never the less, I still love that the bastard was taken down! 9 out of 10 from me.

ridiculous

I love the show, but this episode was beyond ridiculous. I can accept that they had to do some ret-conning in order to bring that particular affair to a close. But there was no need for the many many conjectures they made to be so extremely far-fetched. Not even a psychic could have come up with this stuff. A lot of very lazy writing must have gone into this - plus a need to rush things (perhaps certain recurring characters' contracts were up and they did not want to renew them beyond season 6??). All this conjecture was made worse by them cramming a lot of plot development into 40 minutes. There was more than enough plot here to do a two-parter that would have been decently paced and would have given the plot and the twists and "discoveries" the necessary room to breathe. Yet, they choose not to do this as a two-parter. Perhaps they did not have the time because they were getting too close to the end of the season??

Yes ridiculous

Warning: Spoilers
A cassette recording?????? With almost no other evidence. A powerful, rich senator would never be convicted. In all likelihood the tape would be discredited almost immediately.

Beckett holds a capsule in her mouth for who knows how long and it doesn't dissolved????? Not to mention the killers would never have put her hand on it until after she was dead.

I have reviewed several episodes in the Bracken plot thread and hated almost every one. The thread itself is ridiculous. This episode even details the reasons her quest is not only hopeless but suicidal. The thread gets even stupider in the final two seasons. To the viewer at the time, this episode would have appeared to be closure and it could have been. Instead the show runners took it even further into wacky-land.

I loved this series despite all this stupidity. It's best moments are definitely wacky, but in a fun way. This isn't fun.

I rolled my eyes at the start

Castle is at it's best when you can't take it seriously. Season 1 was only okay, 2 a little better, 3 was more enjoyable and then the incredibly serious 4th series was dull. By this point, Beckett, easily the most annoying character on the programme(Seriously, you people who praise her, what show do you watch?) and her main story arc were incredibly boring and ridiculously far-fetched. It had dragged on way too long and was just ridiculously far-fetched.

Then there was a little bit about it in Series 5 which turned into a decent episode.

Then we got the incredibly predictable Lazarus episode where, if you didn't know it was about her mother early on, you may as well not bother watching TV.

The moment I saw the intro to this episode, everyone in my house rolled there eyes and thought "not again".

Turning it off was the best thing I did

OK Episode but many flaws

Warning: Spoilers
I myself loved every episode from season 1 up to this episode that involved Becket's mother murder, all of them were very intriguing and very good emotionally and story wise, and in this episode, that was the most important one they seemed to be a little of.. It bothered me that they needed an old tape to solve this instead of using their genius minds, I mean, 20 years and suddenly they invent some sort of tape from such long time ago? this just seems to convenient. the best part of the episode was clearly Becket getting her closure and arresting Bracken but everything else was kind of weak to me. I hope this case is not over yet, with the half smile look on Bracken's eyes when he enters the police-car really gives me hope of one final confrontation between the two, with Bracken maybe using his connections once again to cover this up or maybe escape prison in a bad-ass way similar to the way he broke out Lockwood in the season 3 finale. heres to that.
