Emily returns home for a visit over 4th of July and ends up being 'stalked'.
First off, the entire film is shot from Emily's POV. We don't even SEE Emily. The first 45 - 60 minutes is the most boring, irrelative crawl through a movie I've seen in a while. Just an attempt at character development that doesn't really provide the viewer with useful information. Here's a summation:
Emily has finished school. She and her boyfriend have either broke up or are on the rocks. (Can't remember exactly because it didn't matter.) She has a few friends in her hometown. They've missed her. Not much to do there though so, along with her friends, a visit to the eccentric town weed provider helps fill their day of walking around the woods. From there, they attend a fireworks show followed up by a party. She then walks home, alone. An hour after arriving home, someone shows up and begins to lurk around her house.
It took nearly an hour to get all that information. It was S-L-O-W. The last 30 minutes is where things begin to happen and while it has a few creepy moments and attempted jump scares, there's not a lot going on here.
I'm not really sure if this should even be categorized as a 'stalked' slasher. We never see our 'stalker' until he begins lurking at her house. The description of the film makes it seem like we could see another Laurie Strode character who clearly sees or senses an ominous person, vehicle or shadow that is seemingly following and unnerving her. That just doesn't happen here. Another gripe is that the poster work for the film shows a masked figure but I do not recall a mask aside from a short Silence of the Lambs moment.
The POV is probably the most interesting aspect of the movie but who cares about that if what you're seeing is so dull.
I dunno, maybe there is a group of viewers that this film has ben catered to and I'm just not one of those people. I just wasn't impressed and this will be movie I forget in a short period of time.
