30 for 30: The Deal (2014)
Shortly after Aaron Boone hit a walk-off home run to send the New York Yankees to the World Series, the Boston Red Sox were looking for their next step to finally get them a World Series title and this was the same time that the Texas Rangers were looking to move Alex Rodriguez. The Sox and A-rod met, discussed lowering his record salary and the two sides agreed so Boston fans were thinking all their problems were over but then the Union rejected the deal and the rest is history.
It's rather funny watching this short today consider that Spring Training just got back and A-rod is now coming off a year-long suspension and the Yankees downright hate him. It's funny seeing Cashman talk about how the club wanted him and it's rather amazing how drastically the two sides have gone and what Boston has done since all of this. This documentary has interviews with Cashman, Epstein and others involved in the trade and you really get a terrific look at everything that was going on to try and get this done. It's funny how history and fate work against one another at times and you have to wonder what it would have been like had the Union simply let A-rod go to Boston.
