Summaries

  • A musician finds himself on the run from a group of thugs with his friend and his estranged parents.

Synopsis

  • Inder Bhalla (Abhishek Bachchan) is an aspiring song composer who gets kicked out of his house by his father, Bhajanglal (Rishi Kapoor). Bhajanglal runs a bakery that doesn't really "run". Over the years, Bhajanglal's wife Pummy badgered him that his bakery is not even meeting expenses of the house, and wanted Bhajanglal to lease the bakery to her brother, so at least they could earn some rent. Bhajanglal was steadfast in his opposition to this idea. Inder grew up in this bitter household where Pummy would always yell at Bhajanglal and Bhajanglal would throw away Inder's guitar in frustration.

Bhajanglal wants Inder to work at the bakery, but due to Inder's ambitions on becoming a successful song composer, he clearly refuses. Inder calls Bhajanglal a loser in his life and says that Bhajanglal has never bothered to learn what Inder wanted from his life. Bhajanglal finds this an insult and sends Inder out of his house thinking that he is arrogant and selfish. This makes Inder hate his father forever but somewhere inside his soul, Bhajanglal still has love for his son.

Inder travels to Thailand with his friend Ronny (Sumeet Vyas) who is also an ambitious song composer. The producer wants Inder to bring his own money to produce the album and says that he will only provide his label for marketing purposes. Inder has a girlfriend Nimmi who also stays in Thailand but is under pressure from her parents to have an arranged marriage. Her parents want her to get married within a week to an Australian. Inder tells Nimmi that he does not believe in marriage. Nimmi is still positive that she will be able to change Inder's mind about marriage.

Inder misses his mother, Pummy Bhalla (Supriya Pathak) but hasn't talked to her in many years. Inder was kicked out of home 10 years ago. Suddenly, Inder gets a phone call from Cheema (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub). Cheema lies to Inder that his father has sold his bakery and wants Inder to get his share, since the Bakery was in both their names. Inder was least interested in the money, but he needed the funds for his music album. Inder leaves everything and flies back to India.

At the airport he hugs his girlfriend, Nimmi (Asin) goodbye not knowing that she is also travelling to India on the same flight. Nimmi is travelling to India for her wedding. When Inder and Nimmi reach India, they catch the same taxi as Nimmi wants to visit Inder's place. Inder drops Nimmi at his place and then goes to Cheema. There he sees his father has been abducted by Cheema and his goons. Inder comes to learn of the real truth that over the years his father borrowed lots of money from Cheema by keeping the shop and the house mortgage but couldn't return it. With interest, the pending amount comes to Rs 20 Lakhs. But Bhajanglal refuses to sign the papers transferring the property to Cheema. Bhajanglal says that without his bakery and his house, he would have nothing to live for. Cheema warns that if Inder wants himself and his father to stay alive then he better arrange money.

Inder and Bhajanglal go home to think of something. There Inder finds out that his mother is suffering from Alzheimer's and Bhajanglal sent her to an ashram. Inder thinks that his father was very selfish, but he hasn't learned the truth yet. Bhajanglal says that Pummy had converted her house savings into jewelry and given the same to her brother for safe keeping. So, the idea is to retrieve the jewels from Pummy's brother.

Inder brings Pummy back home from the Ashram. Cheema was waiting for them. Inder assures Cheema that the family has some jewels stored with Kripal Mama near Chandigarh. Cheema asks Inder and Bhajanglal to retrieve the jewels but keeps Pummy and Nimmi as collateral. Inder and Bhajanglal work together to rescue Pummy and Nimmi to escape.

Inder, Bhajanglal, Pummy and Nimmi take a road trip to try to run away from Cheema. Cheema is in hot pursuit, as the group hurtles from one obstacle to another. Inder had stolen Cheema's car, while Cheema was following them in a police vehicle. But the state police start tracking Cheema and he has to back off.

Inder and group reach Kripal's (Pummy's brothers) house only to find that he is dead. They find a bank locker key that Kripal left behind for Inder. They go to a bank on their way and want to take Pummy's brother's money that Pummy has a legal right on. Pummy obviously has lost her memory, so Bhajanglal has to sign the form. There, Inder learns that his father has divorced his mother. And as such, there is no way that the locker can be opened with Pummy signing the documents. This causes his hatred for his dad to increase. Bhalanglal tells Inder that it wasn't his fault and the dark truth behind his and Pummy's divorce.

The film goes in flashback. Bhajanglal explains that Pummy was taken away from him by Kripal's wife after Inder left, and they sent the divorce papers as they wanted to stake a claim to Pummy's divorce settlement. But when they learned of Pummy's Alzheimer, they sent Pummy back to Bhajanglal. Bhajanglal got into a debt trap with Cheema only to get funds to treat Pummy. After what he has learned, Inder realizes that his father was always innocent and starts loving him again.

Inder sells all his songs that he had composed to pay back Cheema, gets his parents married again, marries Nimmi, and renovates his and his father's bakery. Inder, Nimmy, Bhajanglal and Cheema (now their friend) working at the bakery and making lots of money.

Sonakshi Sinha appears in a song Nachan Farrate just before the interval when Inder's family go to a Dhaba but do not have the money to pay for the food. Sonakshi works at the Dhaba as a dancer, but his co-dancer is drunk and cannot dance anymore. Sonakshi offers Inder free food worth Rs 4650 if he agrees to dance with her.
