Worst acting ever
phil-139318 September 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I started watching this show thinking: "wow, a new show that takes us to foreign countries in search for a rare car in a hostile environment." But after ten minutes I lost all interest in it. What are the odds of finding a US mercenary working as a bartender in Mexico and willing to risk his life to "rescue" 20000$ and only earning 200$?

Yeahp, the Mclaren character is a poor actor. When you see him looking around as to check if the place is secure or not, you totally figure out that this show is has real as WWE fights.

Don't bother watching. It's a total waste of time. You don't see anything that really makes us petrol heads jump on our seats. Worst TV show ever.

Terrible
rick-9-95720323 May 2014
Discovery, you cheapen your brand every time you buy one of these over sensationalized scripted syndicated shows. You would think you would have learned your lesson on jungle gold and that awful gem hunting show , but apparently not! Whoever keeps buying these shows needs to be fired! Do not watch this show, unless you are looking for fiction. This is another discovery scripted show that is in no way a reality show it will only take you about five minutes to to realize this and turn it off. I expect to see this kind off stuff on tru TV , but not Discovery, I really do not understand why they keep buying this stuff. The script of the first show is literally identical to the gem hunting show that bombed. In fact the gem hunting show bombed over seas and they bought it anyway. Would not be surprised to find out this was tested and bombed elsewhere only to have discovery pick it up.

Terrible Show
mdh2176362 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
If you take the show at face value the 2 main characters are complete idiots. If you realize the truth that it is all scripted it is even worse, their acting is bad, the situations are unrealistic and the premise of the show is dumb. People who conduct this type of activity do in fact have significantly more security, do much more exhaustive research and have plans in place to secure the cars and ship them. This show is a waste of an hour of your time. The show shows very little of the actual cars nor does it explain how these very high end cars end up in this terrible places in pristine condition. On top of this, it appears that the two main characters are completely clueless as to the supposed danger they place themselves in time after time, they can't speak the local language and then proceed to insult people's cars that they look at when it doesn't meet their expectations. Assuming for a moment that what you see is in anyway real (which it isn't) these guys want to place US standards of conduct in a foreign environment. In realty these guys would have been shot, robbed or killed a long time ago.

Poorly executed fiction show
doug-scott14 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
After sitting through the complete episode the other night I went online fully expecting to see the same production company as the one that did Jungle Gold. This show is complete fiction. Would not surprise me to see it was not even shot completely where they claim to be.

Their "security" guy is supposed to the best there is. Why he would put himself inside someone's garage and then cause a fight(they did not show the fight, came up with some garbage about not being able to show it) knowing that people have big guns down there, and he only has one. Were this done for real, there would have been bloodshed, and this show would have been missing some actors. Producers want us to think he somehow took care of the two guys and managed to walk away.

Did not notice any writers credits at end of show, or any credits in the listing at IMDb. There is a narrator, there must be a writer. Problem is, if they list a writer, that leaves it open to interpretation as to reality or fiction. By not giving writing credit, but obviously having scripted narration makes it look more like they are trying to hide reality.

The only reason this show is in 7th place in the ratings on Friday night is because there is likely only 7 different programs on TV on Fridays nights. The real test is what shows beat it out in the ratings, or what show placed 8th.

Junk - avoid at all costs
patrick-201-7605542 January 2015
I had the misfortune to watch their Argentinian episode, where they nearly buy a replica Bugatti. This was depressing - this show seems to be aimed at US couch potatoes who think that traveling outside the US is tantamount to risking your life. Discovery channel also seem to think that their audience has absolutely no idea what a classic car is. The ignorance on show is just laughable - the commentator described the Bugatti engine as an 'inline v8" (its a straight eight - morons). I guess that the production team are just as dumb as the intended audience. The macho bravado of their 'security adviser' constantly flagging up totally innocuous scenarios as if they were extremely dangerous got very tiresome, very quickly. This is what happens when you let less-than-intelligent non-car people make a car show. Absolute garbage - avoid at all costs.

Don't watch this show. It's completely fake!
cptfunnypants7 December 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This is the worst car show I have ever seen. It is entirely fake and really you only get to see a couple of minutes of car stuff, then the rest is scripted drama. The security guy Andrew McLaren was in the military at one point, but he is an actor. He was in Battle For Haditha, and a couple other shows. This show was a complete waste of time. I can't imagine someone giving this show a 10/10 rating unless they are affiliated with the show. I did watch the entire first episode because I had hoped that the level of fake drama would be left to the hiring of the so-called bar owner slash ex military guy but it just went on and on. Yes, it was completely amazing that they found not only an ex military guy, but someone that had already acted in movies and TV shows. What a lucky find! The whole section where they take supposedly very expensive cars through the worst part of town out in the open without checking the gasoline just makes them look stupid. But, no one is that stupid, so what's left is that it's glaringly fake.

Worst. Show. Ever.
taylor-d-duncan21 July 2014
Complete waste of time. I will never that hour of my life back. They hardly show any cars. The acting is awful. It is painful to watch. The preview of whats coming up after the commercial break lies to you over and over and tries to make everything way more dramatic then it actually is. When they get tired of acting or coming up with fake interactions the screen just goes dark and they post some made up account of what happened while you were trying to figure out whether this is a reality show or scripted. Its obviously scripted and in the worst way. I can't believe people actually take the time and resources to make such a horrendous viewing experience.

The show is fake as the positive reviews
hinchapelotas9 March 2016
This show is so bad that it should be classified as science fiction comedy , the situations are so fabricated that it makes you laugh, the exaggerations are so unnecessary, the situations are mostly out of place, the characters of the show look more shady than the people they deal with, the shows tries to give the perception that the rest of the world is just a Tijuana like slum, these type of shows are an enormous disappointment to viewers that are trying to find something authentic and a let down from Discovery, that in most cases is considered a channel with quality shows and content. I hope my review is not considered a spoiler, since it clearly describes the show.

Show I watched when I was in middleschool
jackeobrien21 March 2022
I used to watch this show when i was in 5th grade and loved it. I just revisited it and I enjoyed it. It brought back memories. I know its fake but I love it for nostalgia and I liked the action and badass cars. This idea would make a killer movie. I recommend the series if you want a quick binge.

Interesting show and characters, hope to see at least one more season with the cars they bought being sold.
Oz_Smith18 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
While I'm not a big gearhead myself, I do watch a LOT of car shows on Discovery and Chrome Underground has peaked my interest faster than most other shows.

It's definitely unique in having the deals take place outside of the US and often in shady areas of Mexico and South America where the potential for things to go awry is a lot higher.

All three main characters (Antonio, Yusuf and Andrew) are interesting and likable guys that aren't afraid to show their emotions.

The only other comparable show that I've seen would be Chasing Classic Cars, where the boring and mundane host makes it almost unwatchable, and all the deals are fairly straightforward and uninteresting.

Chrome Underground does show a little of the mechanical side, but I like the focus on actually making the deals and the care taken to minimise the risks.

It's a shame that Andrew most likely won't be appearing again if another season is shot, he added a lot to the show and I hope things work out for more episodes in the future, so we can actually see how the guys made out when returning to the US.

Utter nonsense and absolutely awful
3studio14 February 2020
Clearly scripted, poorly written, terrible acting and completely unbelievable.

Camera work is also hugely annoying, zooming in and out all the time and crazy panning over and over in an attempt to make it seem more manic is just stupid.

I really don't know why this show exists and I certainly don't understand why any network would buy this complete garbage.

Action Packed Excitement!
hiddenabove10 June 2014
No other show takes you to the slums of the world in search of valuable cars. If anyone has ever traveled to the countries that this show has gone to thus far, they know that outside of the tourist areas it can be really dangerous, especially when you are sticking out in high valued automobiles. The fact that this is the number seven ranked show in the United States on Friday nights speaks volumes to the greatness that it is. Obviously not every aspect of this show is worth a ten rating (some of the plot lines are weak and are really easy to figure out early on), but for an hour long show it moves fast and keeps you entertained the whole time.
