In Bill Compton's antebellum flashback: Outside of a bar, Charles Dupont tells Bill President Lincoln has called his soldiers, thus declaring war, and all the local men are going to enlist in the Louisiana military. In the next scene, during a rally in the bar, Dupont declares it is Louisiana's sovereign right to secede from the Union, and how Fort Sumter was just the beginning. Chronologically, Louisiana seceded on 26 January 1861, more than a month before President Lincoln's inauguration (4 March), and two-and-a-half months before the fall of Fort Sumter (13 April). And it was due to South Carolina's attack on Fort Sumter that on 15 April President Lincoln first called up state militia to fight the rebellion.
