Ziad Abdullah decides to buy an abandoned house and return to the village after he traveled a long time ago when he didn't have anything. Mai decides to mortgage the large house where her family and the family of her late husband live.
Mai tells her brother, Nabil, tells him that she will not give him money before he returns to study. The people of the village gather each other and go to welcome Ziad in his palace. Mai rebuffs Ibrahim after he confesses his love to her.
Ziad hosts the people of the village in his palace and recalls with them the memories of his youth. Ziad asks Jamil to leave the school and work with him, but the latter refuses on the pretext that he cannot leave the school and Mai.
As the Mukhtar throws a party in honor of Ziad's return, Jamil convinces Mai to go to the party in order not to make everyone think that she still loves Ziad. Mai meets Ziad for the first time in 17 years.
Nabil threatens his sister after learning that she was the one who reported him to the police. Amin tells Ibrahim that he found gold under the great teacher's house.
Mai tells her sister, Samar, that she will not get any money from their father's estate until she returns to university. Jamil tells Ziad that Mai has applied to the state for approval that the secondary school system.
Ibrahim offers to buy the school for a large sum from Umm Habib and asks her to convince Mai about it. When Samar proposes the idea of selling the school to Mai, she categorically refuses. Ziad tries to talk to Mai, but she rebuffs him.
Two men threaten to kill Mai if she does not sign a concession of the school, but she refuses. People of the village refuse to sign Mai's petition to obtain a license from the Ministry to approve the inclusion of the high school class.
Mukhtar decides to stand by Mai. The people of the village sign the petition for the license, the undersecretary agrees to give Mai a license for the secondary class to be taught in the village.
The judge sentences Nabil to prison along with his friends. Ziad informs the police of the gold and its location and asks them to monitor Ibrahim's house. Mai refuses Ziad's help and his offer to save her from debts.
Umm Habib the latter falls ill then dies, whereupon Samar feels guilty about her death. Ziad offers his condolences on Umm Habib's death and gets into a quarrel with Jamil in the presence of Mai and Samar over his wish to marry the latter.
Mai learns that her two siblings, Nabil and Samar, have filed a lawsuit against her demanding their legitimate right in their father's estate. Mai asks her brother to drop the lawsuit, but he refuses.
The judge orders Mai to pay her two siblings, their right in the money their father's house was sold for. Also, she is given a one-year suspended prison sentence. Ziad tells Mai that she owes him the fee of the lawyer she hired.
Mai tells Jamil that she will marry Ziad in exchange for paying the money of her two siblings. Samar learns the truth about Ziad and that he approached her to get back at her sister, Mai, so she scolds him and leaves.
Ziad quarrels with Mai over coming home later than she was supposed to, after which he tells her that he still loves her and can't live without her. Imad gets angry at Ziad's treatment of his wife, Mai.
Wael decides to marry Samar. Mai tells the love of her life, Ziad, that she has not stopped loving him throughout the time they were apart. As Ibrahim shoots at Mai, Ziad receives the bullet instead of her and dies.
