Queen becomes a wet nurse to Mrs Benson's baby. Why she wants a black woman to be a wet nurse is another matter. Her husband is the leader of the KKK who is allowing his baby to drink the milk from a black woman.

Coincidentally Mr Benson (Richard Jenkins) is in dispute with a black man who is advocating for the rights of black people. He is Davis, the man who left Queen pregnant with a baby and then left her.

Well Queen and Davis meet, argue and have another night of passion. Mrs Benson knowing of their relationship entraps them. It results in Davis being burnt alive by the KKK. Just what are the chances of all this being true?

Eventually there is some happiness for Queen. She meets ferryboat operator Alec Haley (Danny Glover) who also has a son. He gets a job for Queen as a maid but now she is bitter because of her experiences.

Queen and Alec do get married and have a child together. However the years take their toll on her. When their son is old enough to go to college, Queen has a breakdown.

Alex Haley had died before this television series was made. So there is always a question mark as to what embellishments were made to the television adaptation for dramatic purposes.

This was high camp, a lot of it just made me groan. I actually thought some of the actors who now have respectable careers would try to hide this from their resume.

Richard Jenkins is a two time Oscar nominee. Dennis Haysbert is a widely acclaimed actor could make the claim that he made the very idea that a black man could be president of the USA acceptable to people throughout the world in the series 24. Halle Berry is an Oscar winner. Even the older Queen has some bad ageing make up on where she looks odd. Also there is a vast age difference between Berry and Glover and they did not even make a believable couple.
